...so I'm building her a Hackintosh.  This should be fun.

This is more or less the build in it's current form.  This is the first hackintosh I'll have ever built though, so any comments/suggestions/positive feedback are welcome and appreciated.

She doesn't.  If it weren't for her 9 Y.O. mac's screen having a vertical line error in it, she'd be fine sticking with that.  The video card is one of the two currently in my system (I'm upgrading my gaming rig around the same time, though I'm not sure what to get, and this isn't exactly the location in the forum to discuss it).  The machine will barely be used, maybe twice a week.  I'm kind of just trying to save her some money.  Buying a new Apple machine is pricey.

It should also be noted that I'm building for longevity, hence the particular hardware in the build.  No overclocking will be necessary as far as I can tell.  Like I said though, first time Hackintosh builder, lol.

Wait why does she want a MAC anyway ? You could get her a computer with a APU in it one of the nice A series APU from AMD...Those are actually pretty darn nice.

She loathes tech.  More complicated to use/learn is NOT the way to go with her.  She's 65, and barely wants to use a computer... but she realizes that she needs one for e-mail and the like.  She's self-employed in orthopedic bodywork too, and needs something for viewing patient x-rays and MRIs.  Windows is out, she won't use a WinPC.  Linux would drive her batty(er).

I'll give you that she wouldn't know the difference, and it would work fine.  She's getting the 680, because it'll be free.  I'm using two of them right now and I'm upgrading my rig soon.  Otherwise, you make some interesting and valid points.  It is a work in progress.  Thanks for the input.   :D

One other thing to note: apparently, Mac OSX won't run on just any hardware, and I haven't seen a complete list of all of the compatible system components on the websites I've been checking.  The partial list I found was here

http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/HCL_10.10.3

If there are better sites to look for, please let me know.  Thanks!
