It's alright, though I'd recommend

  • a different case with a mATX motherboard (350D and Maximus VI Gene?)
  • different RAM (A GSkill 2x4GB 1600MHz kit will do the trick, red would be preferable)
  • different SSD (Samsung 840 120GB, The Pro version is a bit of a ripoff)
  • better headphones (if you need a mic, you may want to try the ModMic. Please give us more details on your budget for headphones, etc. as well)

What's the build going to be used for? Budget?

The psu is overkill. A good 550-600w will be plenty.

Get the h100i or h220 if you want a good AIO cooler.

Fyi, if you're getting the Hero for anything but the good integrated sound, you're doing it wrong. Any decent $150 will do everything just as well.

Get cheaper ram. Ram beyond 1600 won't give any benefit for anything other than heavy rendering.

The samsung 840 (non pro) is just as fast and cost much less.

Velociraptors aren't worth it., You're better off with a raid 0 or a caviar black.

Heya,

It's a good  choice of components apart from 4 of them, personally. the SSD samsung 840 pro isn't best suited for typical usage and gaming. The standard samsung 840 would be perfect and save you a bit of money.

secondly, with the awesome specs you've chosen. The case is a bit weak, and I'm not convinced you'll fit the radiator in that case. I would recommend going for a Corsair C70 or the Obsidian 650D. The RAM I've never heard of and I couldn't vouch for. I would recommend any kingston memory or corsair vengeance kit.

Lastly, the Velociraptor is good if you use it as a sole primary drive. With an SSD, it's not really worth it. Go for a nice high capacity typical HDD like WD black drive or Seagate Barracuda HDD.

I hope this helps ^_^

Corsair 400R, i7 3770K @ 4.5GHz 16GB, Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz, Gigabyte Z77X-UD5H Motherboard, 240GB Samsung 840 Evo Sata III SSD, 2 x Asus GTX 780 Direct CU2 SLI, Corsair H100i and Corsair AX860i Platinum Power supply.

Is the Seagate SSHD any good?

I didn't have any plans of raid (even though it had better proformance)

That ram was souppouse to be one of the best ram available, and it cost the same as the 1600mhz.

That closed loop has lower temps on then any 240mm.

The reason I picked the PSU was because it doesn't show any colored cables.

I don't mind spending the little bit of extra money on the SSD either.

I agree with above comments, especially the raid solution. The Velociraptor isn't really worth it. My advice: get raid 1 if you can pay for it!

You're overpaying for most of these items by about 15%. Check out newegg, they have some amazing deals on some of the stuff you're getting. Your processor costs $279.99 from Microcenter: http://www.microcenter.com/product/413248/Core_i7_4770K_35GHz_Socket_LGA_1150_Boxed_Processor

Hope this helps you save some money. Good luck with your build, it looks pretty good!

Go with the Carsair h100i, its more then $20 cheaper and I know it works.

If your building a gaming rig then go with the i5 4670k its $117 cheaper and does the job.

Go with something like the Logitech G230 or even the G430.  I think they have the Linus thumbs up.

Go with the Samsung 120gb over the pro, you will not get that much speed difference.

Cry Havoc!

If this is solely for gaming, not anything else like video editing etc., I'd go for a 4670k.

I would also change the velociraptor to a 1TB or 2TB WD Black.

The memory I think would be alright, newegg had okay reviews in it.

And lastly, get a 256GB SDD cause' you saved up from the processor and the HDD.

Case and the peripherals are your personal choice, just double check if the components are compatible. I mean triple check at least.

Good enough.

I like it.  you don't need a 4770k but its cool if you have the budget.

I second getting either 1-2 1tb drives or a single bigger one, a velociraptor isn't worth it at all.

case is fine if he likes the aesthetic, enermax usually makes good stuff.

Intel 4670K /w TT water 2.0 performer, GTX 1070FE, Gigabyte Z87X-DH3, Corsair HX750, 16GB Mushkin 1333mhz, Fractal R4 Windowed, Varmilo mint TKL, Logitech m310, HP Pavilion 23bw, Logitech 2.1 Speakers

i will change the PSU, for one of 650w for the 770, or one of 850w or 1000w for a future dual 770

(i really recommend the 850w PSU for new Nvidia cards, don't ask why lol) ;)

A system with a single 770 will do just fine on a good 500-550w is sufficient.

As for a 770 sli, a good 750w is plenty.

You don't need a sshd if you already have an ssd.

You can get 8gigs of slower ram for $50-60 quite easily.

The extra you spend on the ssd will give you no noticeable performance gain.

only thing i would change about that build is the case

it's a terrible looking case for aesthetics in my opinion.

I chose that case because it has a lot of flexibility, it has 2 140's in front and it can hold a 280mm rad up top and it has 2 usb 2.0 and 2 usb 3.0

I'm deciding on the G430, the Razer Kraken pro, or the Plantronic Gamecon 780.
