Laptop recommendation for college

Go to solution Solved by Spork1111,

What about the Sager NP8651/Eurocom M5 Pro (They're the same laptop, but from different OEMS)

15.6"

i7-4710HQ

970M

The Sager does have a TN panel (though you do have the option to upgrade to IPS), but I've heard good things about it.

4-4.5 hours of battery life with light/moderate use (no games, of course).

The only issue is that the aren't touch, but they're well within your price range. And Eurocom gives a 10% student discount.

Hi forum,

I will soon be going off to college, and have been shopping around for a laptop. As I am going into computer science, and will heavily be using my computer, here is what I am looking for.

  • Portability: Need something that can be taken to and from class, looking at a maximum of 15.6 inches.
  • Keyboard: Will be typing a ton so I need a very good keyboard.
  • Internals: An i7 would be nice, but not necessary. A decent GPU is a must to do some lighter gaming, as I will be bringing a beefier desktop to school for the heavier stuff.
  • Touchscreen: Would really like one, but it is not necessary.
  • Quality: Would like something that's not going to fall apart in the 4 years I will need it.
  • Price: Looking around a maximum of $1500

I have been looking at the Lenovo Y50 4k for $1250, as it covers a lot of what I am looking for, but have seen many complaints regarding build quality and color accuracy. I am okay paying a little extra, compared to other laptops, for something with a nicer quality build. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.

Really like the size of this thing, but not having a dedicated GPU is a dealbreaker

Nice specs and a nice price to match. But at 8 pounds, its a little too heavy to be considered portable, especially with a 17.3 inch screen.

You're gonna have a rough time getting all of that in a laptop for that price. Mainly portability, power, and price. Those 3 are very difficult to get together.

I am just trying to find one that has the least amount of compromises out of the things I'd like to see in a laptop.

(I think) The XPS 13 is the closest you'll get to that. It has everything that you want but the discrete graphics.

Hadn't heard about this, really like it since it makes the least compromises and has plenty of power at a good price
