I have a strange DVI-A cable and I was wondering if I could plug it directly into a female DVI-D (dual link) slot.

Thanks!

It won't fit, you will need a dvi-i connector for the 4 analog pins

You cant, the DVI-d does not support analog and does not have the pins for it, so the connectors wouldn't fit.

It will not fit. It will only fit into DVI-I slots. DVI-A is the connection used for DVI-to-VGA adapters and cables since there's no need to waste metal on the pins for the digital signal. DVI-A has the extra analog pins on it, and DVI-D does not have any holes for those pins to insert into.
