Netgear R7000 - QoS and Port Forwarding

QoS

i have it enabled. but i havent been able to create rules for specific applications that I want (mostly just my games)

When promted to set it up, it asks me to enter a Start port and End port

and i just stop there

I found on EA forums the ports for BF3 however

i did a quick google and some people have suggested Port Forwarding is BAD

1. Does QoS make any real difference?
2. Does it only work if i create specific rules for certain applications?

3. Is port forwarding bad?

4. Is there a way to give my PC priority bandwidth on my home network?

Please and Thanks

QoS doesn't make a big sense. I don't really know if u can setup any rules with this router, I have a cisco router, which can do it.

Port forwarding is pretty safe, unless u're makig a large game server - then expect ddos attacks.

But, most likely, nothing will happen. U can always close ports, when u don't need them open, thus u will feel more safe.

This router allows me to create rules however it only completes the process after entering the Starting and Ending ports.

It's weird because the router came configured with some rules for very old outdated applications like MSN Messenger, Quake 3 etc. and when i go to edit those rules,

it doesnt include any port forwarding options. just basic drop down selections ex. Application Name, Application Type, Priority

You should be able to set port rules manually, away from those presets.

Didn't work with this router, so I can't help u here much. All I can say, that it has to have such feature).
