Abnormal RAM usage

Go to solution Solved by G33k 4 L1F3,

There can be a RAM leak in your install of windows 8.1 Id say reinstall windows 8.1, or if you havent already, update all optional and important updates for windows OS. And idea is that you could have unstable RAM. Prime 95 is a good. Way to check for stability with RAM and CPUs.

(I may of posted this in the wrong place so this is technically me posting for help a second time @_@)

Note this is my first post regarding help so bare with me if I don't explain the situation well.

So since Chirstmas I've gotten a new build, everything was fine with it and I don't think I had any issues expect for the RAM profiles not being set to the right ones. (Note, it's 16GBs of RAM as a 2x8GB). But whenever I use the computer for a long period of time the RAM usage goes up much more than it should without any background processes saying it's using an abundant amount. This didn't bother me at the time however as when this happens I'm usually about to turn off the PC and then obviously the RAM usage goes back to normal when it turns back on. However, lets say I was downloading a game or having to install a few updates, the RAM usage drastically goes up and after the download completes the RAM usage is still at that amount with, again, no background processes saying it's using such amounts. Let me just stress that the usage has became above 90% on several occasions and when it is on this high usage, my attempts to shut it down for some reason results in a restart with the RAM usage still at said high amounts yet restarting it normally resets it and flushes the RAM.

I am using a Corsair Vengeance 2400MHz 16GB RAM kit.

I was confused to either bring it up with Corsair about the issue or Microsoft (since my OS is Windows 8.1) as I have never encountered this issue before. If anyone knows how to help me I will greatly appreciate the help ;;^^ You have my thanks for helping me in any way or form in advance.

Try a nondestructive reinstall of windows 8.1.

I had a similar issue with my windows 7 machine, randomly erroring and pulling almost 19gbs of ram usage when i was rocking 24gb at the time. A quick upgrade to the same version i had fixed it for me.

Open up event viewer and see what process is sucking all that RAM. Browsers like Firefox+Chrome tend to be RAM hogs when using multi-tabs (and with chromes 5000000 processes, it makes it difficult to narrow it down)

There's no process that I can find that uses large amounts when active (It stays that high even with Chrome off and yes I did end it's task).
I will check out Prime 95 though, if anything I'd like to refrain from reinstalling 8.1 unless it's a choice I have to make. Still, thank you for thought of RAM leaks, I'll research it if it could related to my issue!

And so for my long response, that posted late at night around my time at the time of posting.
