It's an old IDE hdd, it uses a big-ass IDE cable for the data and a molex connector for power. It's a 4-pin plug.

You also have to check if you want to use it, if it's in the right mode.

Most IDE drives have 3 modes: master, slave and cable select.

If it's only 1 hdd, just use master. You can change it with that white thing that's plugged in, there should be a schematic of the right options on the hdd itself.

It doesn't look like that hard drive supports SATA data cables. Do you have a flat thick ribbon cable and a corresponding slot on your motherboard? Picture is kind've blurry but it looks to me like you have a SATA data cable in your hand. And it looks like that is an IDE-only hard drive

Hmmm looks like you will need a SATA Power to Molex converter. Please say you have an IDE cable and port on your motherboard. If so that's good. If not well looks like you will need to get a SATA HDD. If the drive will just be used for storage the other option is that you can buy a HDD dock or a External enclosure for it.

Hey Oppslia,

It would be helpful if you could provide us with the exact model of the drive and your motherboard. Usually you can use those drives with a simple IDE to SATA converter card or adapter. They tend to be pretty inexpensive.
