What's the difference?

So I browsing the forum and noticed the language selection dropdown menu (boy, that's a long word-combination-thingy). Now I wonder what the difference between English (US) and English (USA) is:

Maybe it makes a difference to the spell check?

Okay well I just switched to USA from US and it's still spell checking in favour of American English.

 

I'm not sure it really does anything? :0/

Well US means United States and USA means United States of America?

I am 99% sure I am wrong but the only explanation I have is that USA is only US48

US has 50 states. US48 stands for all states except Hawaii and Alaska
