GPU Placement.

Sometimes some PCI 'ports' are slower (like 8x vs. 16x or whatever) and I will look up if that is the case with your motherboard.

If not, it generally is not a huge problem.

EDIT: doesn't seem like it, since ASUS says it is SLI/Xfire supported.

Alright so, I built my first pc not too long ago and everything has been great (specs and pics below)

 

but now I'm noticing something I may have done wrong.. I've noticed that in a lot of videos (especially Linus's) the GPU is always placed in the top slot, closest to the CPU..

 

mine however is in the bottom slot.. I have the Thor V2 with the large side panel fan so I figured placing the GPU right in front of it would be best.

 

So my question, does the placement really make any difference and if so, why?

RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws Z Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2400
 
HDD: Seagate Constellation ES.3 3TB
 
Case: Rosewill Thor V2 + an added 120mm fan. 
 
Monitor: ASUS MX279H 27" Full HD AH-IPS LED-backlit and Frameless Monitor
 
Keyboard: Razer Blackwidow Chroma
 
Mouse: Razer Naga Epic Chroma (updated since picture was taken)
 
Extra: Logitech speakers & Cintiq 13HD

if you can't tell I didn't really know what I was doing when building this haha

 

and I'll be sure to post it when I have better pics, these were just added to help give an idea of what I was talking about c:
