considering there would be almost no load on it, its possible. but why not just put the server in another room?

I have a NAS set up. it has a stock cooler on it, but only one case fan running at 7 volts. it has green drives, I literally have to put my hand behind the exaust to know if its on or not

technically it wouldn't be 0db because the hard drive would generate noise but does seem like a pretty cool idea although you would need air flow through your case or bad stuff might happen...

it was just a old PC I put my spare hard drive in, and ran nas4free.

right now, we have that set up, it has just spare files on it. we also have a western digital mycloud. we keep movies on that and on my dads computer, and just stream(100 legal, for private use) isos to our media boxes.

I have a pi running kodi(xbmc) on one tv, and WD boxes running the other tvs. have a 300ish collection of full dvd quality movies. works great

for your situation, you only need 4 gigs of ram. no reason to go overkill on this server. on the fourm theres someone selling a huge stock of items, and he has a generic stick of ram for 10$. id pick that up, or another 4 gig kit. saves money.

id run windows or linux, run plex and some file sharing software. you could leave the fan on, as the hard drives will make more noise then the fan at no load anyway
