my current setup has 8gb of ram.

I am usually running multiple games at the same time and have 20+ tabs open on my browser.

Of late, I've noticed i've hit the memory cap a lot (using a resource monitor) and I think it's time to get more memory, my question is this:

My motherboard is a gigabyte z77x ud3h (dual channel), and I'm currently running two sticks of kingston hyperx 4gb (8 total).

Should I buy two more 4gb sticks or replace them with two 8 gb sticks? Any recommendations on brands? (Blue color scheme)

you should buy 2 more 8GB sticks....

i ugh.... i have 32GB of ram and i am like you. i run 2-3 games at the same time, with 4-5 instances of mozilla, with 3-8 tabs each...

We can't Benchmark like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to shove more GPUs in your computer. Like the time I needed to NV-Link, because I needed a higher HeavenBench score, so I did an SLI, which is what they called NV-Link back in the day. So, I decided to put two GPUs in my computer, which was the style at the time. Now, to add another GPU to your computer, costs a new PSU. Now in those days PSUs said OCZ on them, "Gimme 750W OCZs for an SLI" you'd say. Now where were we? Oh yeah, the important thing was that I had two GPUs in my rig, which was the style at the time! They didn't have RGB PSUs at the time, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big green ones.

I must have been unclear: I currently have 8gb (4gb sticks x 2). I think 32gb would be a bit overkill at this moment in time.

My question is how I should get to 16gb total, should I:

A) get two more 4gb sticks (4 sticks running in dual channel)

B) Swap out my current config for two 8gb sticks (2 sticks running in dual channel)

i didn't say go 32GB.

get two more 8GB sticks. you'll have 4,4,8,8. that's 24GB. if you're going to buy two 8GB sticks to replace your current 4GB sticks i wouldn't get rid of the old sticks.

Buy 2 more 4gb sticks, if you find the same as the ones you already have the better!, no need for more than 16 gb!
