Had a quick question but I can't really find explanations anywhere online.

 

my xonar pheobus has 3 diff settings, depending on how many ohms your headphones require.

My headphones take 38 ohms (audio technica ath-ad900x) , but they sound so much better with the extra DB added from the headphone amp, is it alright to "overpower" them?

Yes it is as long as you dont max out your volume slider, you could break your headphones or speakers.

Mine is set to high gain and my windows sound to 30.

I've maxed everything with the +12db boost, and theres no distortion or anything, but it is LOUD ~100-110 db,  I'll do what you do and leave it on high and keep the volume a bit lower lol

it just changes the voltage gain.

no need to worry about breaking something unless you crank up the volume.

start low and raise it up till it's loud enough.

 

just use whatever gain sounds best to you.

Will work for electronic components and parts
