so I bought two led strips and they are fantastic, but the only prolem is that they get really hot.

How can I reduce the brightness or give them less power so they don't get to hot.

They are connected by molex

is the air flow in your case not enough? (assuming thier in your case)

how hot is hot? what kind of leds are they? most are designed to run off 12 volt, which is what most do. but some do design to run off 7 volt

edit: I ran leds in the same way, also use leds in model aircraft. so! be glad to help

Do they like heat up the case or it's hot by touch?

Hot when I touch them but when I open H/W monitor I can see that the CPU,.. temp are getting high

and I just have the stock case cooler and a Hyper 212 evo.

CPU temps affected by led strips?

These things aren't correlated in ANY way. If you can't touch the strips any longer, THEN they're too hot.

those are 5050 rgb leds? are they only one color or can you cycle though them somehow? look for any obvious shorts. try running it outside of your case to see if your case is causing the issue.

I think it may be your case causing the short, or cheap wiring. it should be making BARELY any heat. like just warm. nothing more then warm, even if its bright white. affecting cpu temps? or needing another fan? that shouldnt be the case at all

during use, they should get warm, but by no means hot.

Yeah, a budget case..... Just buy a Corsair Fan for like 10 - 13 bucks and install it. Hell, you could go to ebay

a hard drive makes more heat then these strips of leds, another fan I dont think is a solution. if its heating up more then that, its a wiring issue of some kind. dont want a fire hazard lol

One color, and yeah I know they shouldn't get hot

Because I have leds in my room and they never get hot onyl these

i'd like to add i've seen ads for this website pop up every so often, and i can only say i REALLY dont trust anything from them...

they seem like the buy 3 and 2 will *probably work mostly fine* kinda deal...

in case you have some hardware laying around, try adding a resistor in series with the power, my guess is somewhere between 10 and 1K ohm. (wide guess, but it depends on the amount of LEDs, and the resistors already in place)

you mentioned the cpu is getting hot as well, are you sure its not an other component causing the heat, and the LEDs are just passively getting heated?

Aliexpress is good, but you have to have luck. sometimes these products do work and sometimes not (read the feedback)

I'm sure its not any other hardware because it began when I installed these leds

but I think I have found the problem, one fan was not connected (don't know why) and on of the two leds is getting hot

i can shed some light on the "dont know why" part, as i've had something similar happen.

sometimes a connector isnt in well, and gets disconnected while working on the system, because something gets snagged behind the cable, etc.

also, after a closer look, i think i have a similar led strip laying around, and those things produce a bit of heat, not much, but if they are closed off from ventilation they might get hot.

Like a sad it is just one led and the other led produces a bit heat (like you sad). So I will contact the seller and he will send me a new one.

I think like you know it is hot here in Belgium and my room is on the third floor, so that combined makes my room a sauna (which cause my pc to get hot)

belgium isnt that hot, it depends on the weather. my room does touch the 40°c during high summer months. (multiple computers running 24/7 working on the task of the day)

Those LED's do get warm to the touch since they do have built in resistors since those chips are rated for 3.3V each and they have 3 in series per cut area it's only uses around 9.9V so those SMD resistors drop the 12V down to ~9-10V so it does have to dissipate heat.. You can try running then at 7V to see if they startup and run dimmer most of those are designed for running between 7-12V.

That was the question HOW do I run them at like 7v

Can you explain? Please

Their max voltage for an individual LED chip is 3.3V but you can run it lower like a 3V or even 2 V but at 2V it's very dim. So for the chips in a set of three the starting voltage of the LED strip can be around 6V, but leaves the lights to a very subtle glow rather than a light, I have a set of strips that run dim at around 7V but won't turn on any lower than that.
