No not at that price range, i would have 980 SLI minimum for good 4k experiance, other wise go 1440p with a 980

Ok, I might go for a 3 monitor 1080p or 1440p setup instead would this be any good for that (R9 290X)?

1080p: Yes very good

1440p: May get 60 fps

I think I will get one R9 290X at the moment for my 1080p screen then update to two R9 290X in crossfire in the future for a 4k screen. Would this be compatible with my msi  970 gaming motherboard?

Yes. But having CF with the AMD FX-8350 might cause cause a bottleneck (not sure)

Hi folks,

 

I was wondering if the R9 290X is a good graphics card to run fps on one 4k monitor? Also would this be compatible with my msi 970 gaming motherboard and amd fx8350 cpu?

the 290X is a great card

 

unless you can OC the FX to hell mode

 

games like Arma 3 or other CPU limited games will get lower fps when compared to the Intel i5 4670K/4690K

 

with your mobo also

 

dont expect to run dual GPUs

 

dual GPUs and FX dont mix well

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.
