My first build

Go to solution Solved by blackadder,

Ok ill take another look at CPU'S. Ill probably go with a 850 watt psu. I picked 1k at first just to make sure I wasn't using to low of a psu

with 850 watts you can sli 970 and not worry one bit, best of luck.

I'm building my first PC and wanted to know if I picked ok parts. Parts list. Thermaltake chaser a31 case, AMD FX 8350 8 core 4ghz black edition. Asus sabertooth 990fx 2.0. Corsair hydro h100i, corsair vengeance 16 GB ram, crucial 256 GB ssd, two western digital 1 tb hdd, corsair rm1000 full modular power supply, sound blaster zxr sound card, and ether Asus raden r9 970 or msi raden r9 970x gpu. How did I do?

Asus raden r9 970

Doesn't exist , and the 8350 is a horrible çpu , dont spend that much money oçing it.

i5 4690k + cheap z97 mobo + 212 evo = win

We need a budget tho OP.

I kinda wanna stay will AMD for the CPU and I don't really wanna spend more then 1,300 I'm going to be using this PC to play Skyrim, bf4, and the next expansion for starcraft. But most of the time it will be used as my home media server

you could spend the same and get performance from intel, the 8350 is a 3 year old chip at this time, its not bad but, its starting to show its age. you don't need a sound card with most current motherboards so you can save money there unless you need one of the ports for headphones that you mb doesn't have. Nvidia makes the  970 cards, just pick the one that looks the best to you and is the cheapest. a 1000 watt psu is overkill for this system, something like a good 650 watt or 850 watt if you want to sli, you can even go lower with the psu watts, i just don't like them to work as hard. standby for a pc part link.

Edit: intel but, less than 1300, http://pcpartpicker.com/p/78cQYJ

Hey smallsbeef,

The build looks good. I would consider a newer model CPU as this one is a bit old (as @blackadder pointed out). 16GB of RAM is a bit overkill for gaming as 2x4GB would be enough.
The GPU that you have listed is nonexistent and I assume you were about to type either the AMD Radeon R9 270/280 or the nVidia GTX970. Both cards are good and would perform great for gaming.
I really like the storage solution.

Captain_WD. If I wanted to stay with AMD mainly cuz I already have the motherboard what Cpu would you recommend.

Sadly, since I am a WD representative, I cannot recommend other brands' products. I would navigate to the CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory section and ask the guys with experience which particular CPU would suit your needs and would be appropriate for the motherboard you have. http://linustechtips.com/main/forum/5-cpus-motherboards-and-memory/:)
