in the near future i am looking to upgrade my mobo to support 4 way crossfire. i will not be using 4 gpus in the near future. i plan to crossfire the 390x when it comes out. and just want to be prepared for the time i may need it

i have one i have fallen in love with but im not sure whether it is good or not, but am fairly certain it will get its job done

The one i like alot : Gigabyte GA-Z97X-Gaming G1 WIFI-BK ATX LGA1150

are there any other ones that will do what i need of them and still have room for improvement.

i am super cheap, these motherboard aren't. they all will work but, did you want us to recommend something cheaper? like get http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128709then get a 980 with the money you saved. what are you going to be doing? do you need 10 sata ports? that many fan headers?

I just want a badass mobo that will do what i need of it and more for a long time to come also I will be getting a 980 in the next month or so this mobo will be getting installed at a later date. I'm just unsure about whuch of the ones I've listed are better or if they are the same just cosmetics are different on the msi one i just looked at it looks crazy good and is really good for overclocking down the line

I'm super super shallow.... I'd take the MSI board just because it would fit in my build, but, other than that it really doesn't matter. Any of those would work just fine and offer a good selection of features. (they all pretty much offer the same stuffs)

If i was going to be using this in a heavily accessed network i might consider the Asus board, because of it's dual integrated intel adapters, but other than that i can't really spot any major differences.

your chip is going to be the biggest factor in your oc, as in 99% of it a $130 board is going to oc just as good as a $500 one.  out of the ones you listed i would pick the gigabyte one, im super biased as i have owned mostly those boards and they have done me well. any of these are boards are overkill. go x99 if you want more pci lanes. or more than 2 gpus

honnestly i dont know what to say with this. if you're not going to x-fire 4 gpus why do you need that? im honestly confused. this literally takes price to performance and says "no". also 4 way xfire/sli wont ever i mean ever be a good idea diminishing returns hits hard alot of games only support 2 way and many don't even do that. with power and thermals given off by 4 way sli unless your water cooling its absurd. unless your going for sheer wow factor to say "i literally could calculate the movement of the all air molecules in new york".  and even then your looking at the wrong cpu if your that into this you should be drooling over the asus mobo's on the x99 platform. im very confused. many h97 mobos support 2way xfire and have enough sata ports to store 3 years worth of midget porn. please enlighten me as to why

even when 2 390x's arent enough it dosent mean adding 2 more will be. it doesn't scale like that. 2 390x's hell even 1 290x will be a good enough gpu for most games at 1440p for the next 3 years

If you're doing professional content creation, then yes, it can be. However, if you're not doing serious constant work with professional programs then you're most likely not going to see anything worth while in gaming or general use.

i agree. if you are a serous content creator then you shouldn't even be looking at this platform at all and maybe be looking at xeons and quadro gpu's

Streaming and gaming? No reason then to go to X99 really at all. The 4790K is a superb chip and should be able to handle both of those tasks without batting an eyelash.

if its for gaming mostly pick the ROG series or the gaming series of Asus and spend the rest on a good GPU and some Rams,

Intel Core i5 - 6400 <> Msi B150A Gaming Pro <> Msi Gtx 970 Gaming <> G.Skill Ripjaw 4 16Gb DDR4 2400mhz

You would be best investing in a 2011v3 X99 rig as it has 28 - 40 pci-e bus lanes, where as a 1150 only has 16 pci-e lanes.

so if you intend to crossfire / sli then socket 2011 is the way to go.

SYSTEM CPU TYPE                          CPU Mark                                    PCI Bus Lanes           CPU Watts

Socket 1150 NUC                              2467-3463                                    16                                 --

IF I WANTED TO STAY IN 1150 WHAT WOULD BE My BEST BET

caps lock was on my apologies

all depends on your budget, and would look at a ATX m/board for sure and a medium to high end quality with the best sli / crossfire support and layout.

some boards don't have good spacing and so if you want to go sli / crossfire its important to look carefully at the speeds and spacing of the pci-e slots also the VRM can be important if your running multi gpu and a high end cpu.

so many choices out there. best thing is to filter things down by picking a max budget, form factor (pretty much will be a ATX), colour scheme, preference to a manufacture, other interfaces, onboard sound and lan quality, build quality.

as you have to remember to look at all these aspects as if your gaming online you want to make sure its got good lan and good onboard sound.

and obviously with my username and built like the last 5 rigs with Asus m/boards i am kinda bias to Asus, but the others are also good options.

if budget is an issure then i don't think like a ROG board is needed, its a luxary and for overclockers etc. so you can get away with any of the other boards that have the specs your looking for.

also i will point out if you think about it you pretty much have a m/board in a case / rig for anything from 2 - 5 years and so i always say never cheap out on a board as its the backbone to your system and get something with the latest and fasted interfaces you can afford.

changing a board out is a pain in the butt and so to me i put a lot of though and reseach into getting the one that suits my needs.

currently waiting for my new m/baord for a new 1150 m-itx rig i have designed and built from scratch, from day one i knew there was only one board that will do and its taken like over 6 months of building and saving up to finally a week ago i got one bought and so yeah check, check and check before you click the buy button. look at manufactures websites and also look at video reviews on utube or whereever.

got to love Asus components
