Hi all

I am together with other people arranging a LAN-Party on my school. I have been given the respons of networking gear so, I need a little help.

I need some switches to route the connection around.

We target around 50 people.

We should be able to get at 100/100 connection.

I dont know the budget yet, but they should be performing well, to a good price.

I was thinking about some switches with either 6 or 12 ourlets?

I ask for your suggestions?

Thanks!

Probably just one 24 port and one 48 port swich that atleast have gigabit up links. So they can be full 10/100/1000 or just 10/100 as long as they have at least 2 gigabit up link ports on them that should be ok for 50 people.

Then just run cables neatly to the desks.

Do you require a router as well?

Do you know the layout of the room? 50 people could be quite a big space to occupy. If you just do two high port density switches you could have a lot of people needing a cable anywhere from 50-150 feet. That's not a huge deal if you're going to make the cables yourself also but if you're buying them that could add up quickly.

However if you are in a situation where you just have two really long tables everyone is at then it could be perfect.

Basically you don't need any special features in a switch any unmanaged 10/100 or 10/100/1000 switch will do.
