Introduction: This is a totally budget build with high cost due to me living in Singapore. Im a first time computer builder so advice is definitely appreciated to help me improve on my build. Hope you guys can help me computer geniuses

1. Budget & Location
Budget of SGD$1000-$1200.Might be able to save more if i go out less.

G3258 Build:

Case:Corsair Spec 03 Mid Tower - $89

Hard Drive:1 TB WD Black - $109

SSD:SAMSUNG 250GB 850 EVO - $199

CPU cooler:CoolerMaster Hyper 212X - $69

Graphic card- Sapphire R9 280X 3GB Tri-X Vapor-X STD- $385

Power Supply-Seasonic M12II-520W Modular 80+ - $99

Total: SGD $1,261

For Graphic cards there are alot of options > MSI R9-270X Gaming OC 2GB-$319,Gigabyte GTX960 G1-Gaming 2GB -$389,MSI GTX960 Gaming 2GB-$359,MSI GTX760 Twin Frozr Gaming 2GB-$329,Sapphire R9-270X Dual-X OC 2GB-$289.

Total:SGD$1,195

2. Aim
This cheap gaming rig is just aiming to play at some decent frame rates. I play dota 2 on framerates that spike from 20-60 thats horrendous.

Playing Dota 2 most of the time. However with this new computer rig, hoping to be able to play other games such as dying light, dayz,CSGO without having lag issues. I don't need high quality 1080p gaming, just smooth gameplay.  Overclock is a must . The G3258 is a beast overclocker~

I am not aiming for build to be upgradeable. Just decent to survive for the next 4-6 years being able to games smoothly~

4. Why are you upgrading?
Cause im using a horrible laptop to play games.Seriously i5 m430,2gb ram, Geforce GT 330m graphic card , 452gb of memory space only. This thing got to go.

If you have that much to spend and this is a gaming rig scrap the SSD and get a better cpu and OC the crap out of it.  Yes the G3258 is a fun cpu but with your budget it is not something I'd recommend.

Too many ****ing games!  Back log 4 life! :S

Sigh... I go out for just a while and this happens....

First, ditch the SSD. You need money for other things.

Seoncd, I hope you realize that you are severely bottlenecked with a pentium and a 280x. The CPU just can't handle it. I retain my opinion: go with used parts, and assemble yourself a more balanced build. Unless you are getting the pentium now to upgrade to an i5 later.

Only until now i notice you have an ssd in your build. My advice is to drop the ssd completely and get a better cpu then like a 4460 or get a 120gb ssd and a 4160. I would go the 4460 route though.

Mainboard:ROG-STRIX-B360-G-GAMING/Cpu:I5 8400 /Gpu: Galax RTX 2070 /Ram: Corsair Vengeance 16 GB DDR4/ Storage:1TB HDD 2 Corsair SSD PSU : Corsair 550W/Cooling: Silverstone Air Cooler/ / Case : Corsair/Keyboard:Razer Chroma TKL/Mouse:Mionix Castor+Steelseries Qck Mass/Headphone:V Moda M100

*4440

Please avoid Haswell-R compatibility issues. "Are they rare nowadays?" -> yes. But they can still occur. So avoid them.

Im able to drop the SSD completely and add it up later. However can anyone tell me what the number behind the I5 stands for ? Higher numbers= newer= better?

Pretty much yeah. You want to choose an i5 from one of these options: 4440, 4460, 4670, 4670k, 4690, 4690k. The latter being the best in terms of performance.

The 4460 is a refresh of the 4440 it's slightly better. Usually the higher number mean better. Your motherboard might need an bios update for it to work with the 4460 but you should be fine.

Prices taken from mynextcom: http://www.mynextcomonline.com/ (Singapore)

jzNtEL5.jpg

You mind going out less?  ;)

CPU: i5 4460 ($265)

MOBO: Asrock h97m pro4 ($146)

GPU: Sapphire tri x 280x ($373)

PSU: Seasonic M12II-520 80+ bronze ($99)

RAM: G.Skill RipjawsX 1600mhz 8GB (4GBx2) ($115)

SSD: Crucial MX100 256GB ($159)

HDD: Seagate 1TB ($73)

CASE: Corsair Carbide Spec 03 ($89)

Total: $1302

You can drop either SSD or the HDD and the price will drop to $1,2k.

I'd suggest dropping the HDD first. It wouldn't take long for you to save up for a HDD.

Saves you the trouble of reinstalling the OS as well.

i5 2400 | ASUS RTX 4090 TUF OC | Seasonic 1200W Prime Gold | WD Green 120gb | WD Blue 1tb | some ram | a random case

Or, drop the SSD. I bought one and thought "wow, this is so much faster to boot than the HD!". Then, I came to realize that I leave my PC on 24/7 with all programs and tabs already loaded.

So... yeah. SSDs are unneeded. I left my SSD to go onto the notebook, as that one's drive failed.

That would be based on OP's situation. OP may not leave his/her PC on for 24/7. And will depend on how fast he/she can save up.

My friend has been living with 256GB SSD for 2 months now, waiting for me to donate a HDD  ;)

I think im gonna get an SSD first and drop the HDD. Im only home mostly on saturday sunday. The only thing i need are Steam,OS and Dota 2. A month or two and i might add a WD black to start installing other games~

H97m pro 4 is a M-ATX size motherboard while the H97 pro4 is ATX size with more PCI slots.

H97m pro4 (Smaller)

H97 pro4 (Bigger, more PCI slots)

So the H97m pro4 will still do the same job right and still fit the huge ass graphic card? Cause i dont see the need for a bigger MOBO

Thanks bro. I guess i will go with i5 4690k. Damn the budget build have became a decent build. Price shot to 1.4k

Beware the pc money trap  ;)

You need to have a Z97 motherboard to overclock though.

Also the for the CPU cooler you can grab the deepcool Gammax 400. It works just as well as the Hyper 212 for average overclocks.
