First PC build

jesudas
Go to solution Solved by Dzzope,

I would suggest not going with a 4790K. A 4790 would save you the money because you will need at least 8GB of ram.

People say 16GB is ideal for content creation but you can get away with 8GB first.

Xeon for the price of an i5, near the same speed and with HT... best of all worlds.. Also it's locked so can't oc, just get a reasonable board to go with it.

So from what i've learned in this ttopic, is that amd isn't close to as good as Intel..

This is why you go intel:

http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardware-canucks-reviews/66683-intel-devils-canyon-i7-4790k-performance-review-8.html

This would be my pick.. So much more bang for your buck than the rest (apart from maybe the GPU, not looked at all the other builds)

Slightly (very slightly) slower cpu that the one you marked but stay away from Kingston V300.. It's a bait and switch (They changed the specs and components).. Intel 730 is a damn good drive and your getting 240GB vs 120. Worth it for the slight drop in cpu

Hey,

after months of computer hardware education i've come up with a dual-screen affordable and reasonably good pc (in my opinion).

I haven't bought any of the parts yet, though i am planning to soon. I just wanted to see what a community may suggest i change in my parts list.

Any advice would be awesome! Oh and by the way, this build is suppose to be for a bit of gamming and content creating (video processing and stuff).

And i am also on a budget for around $1200.

I recommend going with Nvidia their dual screen support is much better.

I believe you can only have 2 monitors per AMD card unless you use some adapters for DP while Nvidia you can use both DVI and any combination of the other ports.

If you're set on AMD and only sticking with 2 monitors then I say that build is fine. Also get some kind of aftermarket cooler because the stock AMD ones are loud. A hyper 212 will do just fine and even leave a smidge of room for overclocking

I would probably rid of that FX and go with a i5-4460.

The 280x is fine, I'm currently running dual screens with it.

What's the difference between the FX and i5?

FX = 8 not strong cores

i5 = 4 strong cores

FX is weaker than the i5 in gaming.

But the FX would excel in multi threaded programs.

4460 will be much stronger in single threaded applications and games that use no more than 4 threads.

i believe i5's are better for gaming and single core performance.

for multi-tasking, go with the i7 4790 (non k) with a h97 motherboard

look at @Gr8White_Bear 's post, only downside is you have no SSD, unless you're willing to go extra for an SSD in that system config.

For some reason pcpartpicker doesn't let me choose intel cpus. never mind.. I figure its because of the motherboard.

FX would pull ahead a little.

But honestly I'd take the i5 as it does not lack so far behind the FX in day to day multitasking and performs so much better than the FX in gaming.

I'm looking for heavy multi-tasking, like running a game and processing video at the same time.

that's just putting more stress on the cpu, i would wait for the render to finish then play games.
