So, I have a 325a and the Gladius CCU is only $20. I like the look of the Gladius more.

I'm not concerned for general purpose use in the PU. I'm looking for something purely for escort services. I also have a Cutlass Blue and a Herald. If they can't handle the job, then I'm doing the wrong job.

I want advice on which ship you guys think is the better dogfighter. Any and all help is welcome.

There is a Gladius CCU available?! Makes sense actually, but I'm in the same boat with my 325a Alpha package: not knowing what to do since the experience is... meh.

Granted, I have an Andromeda to back it up with.

EDIT: looking at the stats for both ships (as much as it might mean right now), I would say that the 325a is superior in every way, which doesn't make sense when you look at the prices...

I am confused :S

Also, on the somewhat similar topic, the Cutlass Blue is far superior to all the other planned Multi-Crew dog fighters, usually (but not always) in shields, power, and weapons, as well as total crew. (Gladiator, Freelancer, Cutlass, Super Hornet, Vanguard)

@Wauthar

My understanding is that if you ccu the ship in an alpha package, you remain alpha status as the package itself is what the alpha is connected to. As long as you don't melt it, your status does not change.

Just in case, I suggest doing a customer service request for clarification. That being said, if what I've heard is correct, you are not stuck with a ship you don't like, regardless of the package.

@CommanderFett

I honestly think the Gladius would likely be a better choice. It may not be as fast, but has a better potential and hardpoint/system set-up to be an escort and for longer range engagements. They also are thinking of how to improve the gladius to match the pricepoint, as they are doing with the cutlass as well. I hope that helps. Also, herald will have no use as a dogfighter, sorry to say; unless you plan to use it for its intended purpose instead of escort.

The real limitations is that the ships are not complete. The cutlass blue is not even handling and responding as intended, and it doesn't have the crucial features it should (silent running = not easy to scan and target; larger sized shields and weapons) as well as thrusters that are more show then function. The acceleration and maneuverability is not yet correct. For the gladiator, they just implemented recently and they will likely address the overall disappointment from the buyers, so hold on and it may show to be far greater than the 300 series soon enough.

Still new, but learning

The current Cutlass is the Black. I looked at the stat page of the Blue and it out-performs every other multi-seat fighter currently in game, including the new Vanguard. https://robertsspaceindustries.com/ship-specsselect the Freelancer MIS, Super Hornet, Gladiator, Cutlass Blue, and Vanguard.

I am well aware the Herald isn't a dogfighter  ;) I have other uses for it

@Wauthar @drewjn My major fallback is that my alpha is bound to my 325a (Originally Aurora LN) package. But I definitely like the look of the Gladius more than the 325a, to the point where, even though they're practically identical on paper, I think I will purchase a Gladius CCU

Again, the alpha package should still be viable if you ccu it. This has been mentioned by others in the subscriber forums, but you can also clarify this with support. So that shouldn't be a problem.

Yes, I understood that you can use only the black, I got the blue anniversary edition, I just meant that for the cutlass itself that we are limited at this stage. The blue will also have larger sized hardpoints and ships.

What I have noted is that s4 shields do not really work that much better than smaller iterations at this point, and I hope the difference becomes more noticeable. A single round of s1 sledges shouldn't instakill you in an s4 shielded cutlass....

I mean I want to melt my package, but the only thing preventing me from doing so is the alpha restriction. I know CCUs don't bother your Alpha status.

When the Blue is unleashed in Arena Commander, I fear for the others.

Agreed.

Just make sure not to destroy your kb/m or your hotas too much from all the drenching of drool the moment you first test drive it. I know sure as heck that I will be anticipating it heavily. If they also manage to overhaul the physics to actually manage the model and stats, then that fearing for the others may turn to pity or sorrow for them instead.

I used to have a 325a. Now I have the gladius and I like it more. I'm not a huge fan of the nose gatling but I love how the ship handles and looks. I'll stay with a gladius. Also I think it takes a little more punch before it falls apart than the 325a. The only thing that 300 series have that gladius doesn't is the cargo space but you don't need that for escort missions I believe.

I don't have the Gladius but I "borrowed" one during a free flight match and my impression was its core feature was handling, in particular acceleration, it almost felt wrong to me (in a good way lol), it also looks really nice IMO. The downside to it I felt was as it got damaged it became a nightmare to handle, maybe I just took some hits in a bad spot but boy was it hard to control at that point. As I say I don't have it but that was my take away from my couple of runs in it.

Ok, I can ccu the cutlass blue to a superhornet.

Package for the blue in anniversary, so that means I still get all the additions and would possibly make it an anniversary hornet? Question is, is it worth it, or should I just leave things as is? The Cutlass doesn't look like it will be finished anytime soon, and I plan to have both ships eventually. I just don't plan to buy an SH straight out. So there is the question, upgrade and buy a cutlass blue in PU/full-release, or just hold off on the SH till full release?

If you're not super hyped for killing everything in Arena Commander, hold off. Cutlass seems like a better ship for early PU gameplay. The SH you can always get for REC to play with in the Arena Commander.

+1

@drewjn

The Super Hornet just has the fire power but it has no cargohold and no bed. It is and will always be a short range fighter, so the Cutlass will be a better option in PU
