FPS problems

Go to solution Solved by Timopomer,

It doesn't seem to be, but I'm really not that great with clock specs and such but here's some screenshots for reference

show us these pages while gaming. also a temperature reading from hwmonitor or something....

im quite positive something is throttling

I've recently built a new PC,(I'll post specs below) about a month or two ago and in the past week I've been having fps problems running relatively low-demanding games(csgo, street fighter, etc.) at only 1080 resolution.  I've yet to overclock the CPU/GPU and have only changed minor settings.  I was easily running csgo at 300 fps and now only getting 100 at max(again at 1080 resolution).  While playing, the temps for both the CPU/GPU are stable and not hitting crazy numbers.  I'm currently at a lose as to how to fix this. If anyone could help, I'd greatly appreciate it.

PC Specs:

MSI X99s Gaming 7

Intel i7-5820K 3.3 GHz

MSI Geforce GTX 970

16 GB (4 x 4GB) Corsair Vengence DDR4

run aida64 or prime and look how hot the machine can get..

also download MSI afterrburner to see what the gpu usage is

I'm running afterburner right now and GPU usage is at 35%. CPU temps are stable at 30, but now I am seeing my RAM usage spiking from high to low and CPU usage rather high. (This is while playing a csgo public DM server.)

I've only seen this kinda thing in laptops. Sounds like a power setting somewhere to limit GPU performance for energy saving. Also, have you reinstall drivers?

Yes, I have reinstalled and updated.  Do you know of a way to change a power setting for the GPU to test?

In Nvidia Control Panel, under Manage 3D Settings, there is an option for Power Management Mode. Try setting that to prefer maximum performance.

This has definitely helped smooth out the game, but I'm still not getting the same performance as I was about a month ago.  It's disappointing to say the least.  I'll post some pics from Afterburner just for a reference.

What monitor do you have? Your GPU is probably holding back so it doesn't use as much power. If you have a 60Hz monitor, there's no benefit in running at 300FPS.

I change some power settings in Nvidia Control Panel and it has helped some, but I'm not getting half the performance I was getting about a month ago.  Rather disappointing, I'll post some screenshots for reference.

Is it common to only use 80% of the GPU  like that in games?

it varies from game to game

Benchmarks will push the GPU to use 99% of the power

it could now be network issues causing the lags

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

Thanks everyone for help!  Not sure what the problem was, but I tried playing today at 4k for fun and i was hitting 100+ fps, then 20 minutes later my computer blue screened.  I logged back in and everything was working normal from a couple weeks ago.  Appreciate it!
