Building My First PC

Go to solution Solved by vSyNd1c4t3,

All of this is very handy, but i'm still a bit on the fence about which CPU to use

4690k the 4690 or the 4460

Could someone tell me the price and base clock for all 3?

$227 USD i5-4690k 3.5GHz but people overclock to 4.4GHz +

$219 USD i5-4690 3.5 GHz does not overclock

$179 USD i5-4460 3.2GHz does not overclock

$174 USD i5-4440 3.1GHz does not overclock

If you 100% know you are not going to overclock get the i5-4440 or i5-4460

If you might overclock eventually (it's totally worth it) i5-4690k.

So I'm building a gaming PC and after doing my research i've decided that i'm going to get the Intel i5 4690k for the CPU and a sapphire r9 280x toxic tri-x for the GPU. my questions are:

1. what case should I get? I only ask about the case because the r9 280x toxic tri-x is pretty big.

2.What motherboard should i get? I dont think i'm going to be using more than 1 GPU for the immediate future but i think i'll only ever go as high as 2. RAM wise i'd probably edge towards 16 gig

3. are the 2 components that i've chosen already good - i'm probably not going to be overclocking either.

Any response would be super helpful as i only have a basic understanding of all of this :P

Thanks, louie

1) Personal preference. Generally speaking you want one with decent cable management, build quality, and air flow. We'd also need to know the form factor you plan to use.

2) Again depends on the features you need and the form factor.

3) They would work fine, since you're not overclocking save some cash and go for a cheaper locked i5 such as the i5 4460.

Also we need to know your budget/currency for the parts.

budget wise i'm aiming for around £650-£700

And... what do you mean by form factor?

atx (big), micro atx (smaller) mini-itx (really small)

If you are not overclocking, there is no reason to get a CPU that is unlocked and can overclock. BUT you may want to overclock in the future, so getting one that is able to overclock is a great choice honestly.

As far as motherboards go, here is a good one, and it even matches your color scheme for you graphics card.

Still looking for an optimal Case though, give me a min to find something.

Edit:

Forgot to mention that it is Crossfire ready, and supports up to 32GB of memory.

If your not going to be overclocking there is no need to go for a 'K' CPU.

I recommend the build below:

probably a micro unless the GPU wouldn't fit...

also whats the difference o the base clock of the i5 4690k and the i5 4460?

The ATX board will allow for you to add a second GPU in the future. This can't be done with a Micro ATX board.

The i5 4690 has a higher base clock of .3ghz

Your graphics card is 308mm long.

i5-4460 is 3.2GHz

i5-4690k is 3.5GHz and most people i believe overclock to 4.4GHz+

I found a case that would match your full color scheme. (if you care about something like that)

It also has 400mm space for a Graphics card. 92mm extra from what you need.

You have no need for the 4690k if you dont plan to overclock.

Go for the one that fits in your budget but the 4690 is a better cpu then the 4460.

Why are you giving him dollar prices when he stated GBP in a previous post?
