If my cpu load shows around 30% and gpu load ard 90%, is there any bottlenecking?

 

Tyring to figure this out. Please advise.

depends, its entirely possible you have a 5960x and a gtx480 but if you're playing dota2 on minimum settings at 1360x768 with vsync on...and that would give you <100% gpu usage.

doesnt mean you're bottlenecking.

edit- though if you have amd, everyone intel fanboy will tell you otherwise before they ever test it..

edit-edit-also it depends how you're measuring cpu usage, if every thread is <99% and your gpu usage is still<100 its eaither what i said there^ where the gpu just isnt being taxed enough and you're likely limited by DirecX or the game engine itself.

OR if the game is badly made and single threaded and pins thread 1 at 100% and your other 5+ threads are doing sweet F all then you'll have a gpu bottleneck, thankfully most modern titles are multi threaded but intel users do love thier single threaded MMO RPG's. that way they have core 1 at 100% and cores 2, 3 and 4 doing nothing while still only at 25% cpu usage while thier 780ti sits there at 33% usage.

At those numbers the only bottleneck is your GPU but that's a given with GPUs since they should be near 100%

Technically it is a bottleneck, it's just that bottleneck is not necessarily a bad thing. But yeah, generally when we say bottleneck we mean like crap CPU paired with a high-end GPU, in which case that GPU will almost never reach its potential.

a given cpu and gpu doesnt equal a bottleneck, as i said a 5960x can seem to bottleneck a 480in certain circumstances and other times ive had my 290 at 100% at 100fps with an fx4100.

ive extrapolated my post a little to give more detail, this thread is exactly what i test daily and why ive had 2 phenom x4's, a phenom x6, a bulldozer fx8, piledriver fx8 (which ive locked down to fx4 and fx6's), e5200's, e7200's (e8500's) [so pentiums vs core2 duos testing cache], q6600's and a qx9650 and a g3258 and briefly a 4690k.

techspot is pretty much the best online resource for checking out cpu usage in games, from thier graphics you can tell if a game is badly threaded and will make the most out of a given gpu, ive done allot of testing myself where i can and have screenshots in my "stuff" album.

game? resolution is high enough.

check task manager (set update speed to high) and see if any cores get maxed out, if i was an a**hole like some users are to amd folks i could just laugh and not help and recommend a new rig, just sayin....

edit- also, shame the "widescreen" BS took off, if that was 16:10 instead of 21:9 that screen would have been 25% bigger (still at 34in) and take up less desk space at only 30in wide not 32in.

5960x can bottleneck a 480, and yes, it depends on the content. But it's still technically a bottleneck. That's all I'm saying.
