Evening all,

does anyone have any good, or bad, experiences with buying second hand components. I am thinking Ebay will be the easiest to use to find parts but wondered what peoples experiences are.

Also, are there any low or high risk parts that can be bought safely second hand, or should not be bought second hand at all.

Thanks,

Paul

Half my build is used components, just be careful when buying and make sure you know what you're doing.  If you don't, you're bound to get screwed.

If buying used, try to buy from manufacturers whose warranty transfers (MSI, EVGA, etc) and always make sure there's some sort of buyer protection, such as Paypal.

My current build has second hand:

  • i5 3570K
  • Asus P8Z77-V LX
  • Sapphire R9 270X

I've had absolutely no problems with any of them, I've even got the CPU running at 4.4Ghz.  Things like a case and peripherals I'll always buy new as they are the bits you see and I like things to look new even if they aren't.

You could also try looking for offers in your city. With those, you can actually go there and physically check if the iten in question is any good. Just don't get used HD, they are prone to failures.
