I enjoyed so much building my High End PC that now I want to do another one! This time, instead of a 2500$ build, I will go for a low/mid end PC. If everything goes as planned it should cost me 700$ CAN.

I will not include periphericals or the OS. The GPU is not included in the list because I'll get it used to save on the budget. It's gonna be a R9 280X for 150$ CAN. Tell me what you think of it.

I'm either gonna sell this to my friend or if he really doesnt want it, on internet.

Its quite difficult to sell custom built pcs on the internet as the people who dont know twat about pcs will buy the cheap gamery looking pcs without concern of the components, and the poeple who case about the components mostly build their own. Its a very small market out there

That's sad... So many poeple are getting robed by the crappy pre-builds they get in stores. That PC at 800$ would probably wreck any 1000-1300$ they have in stores.

If he decides to OC, It'll be better than the fx-6300. Also an i3 performs better than the fx-6300 in some games.

The i3 and Pentium G3258 OC'd destroy the FX-6300 and have an amazing upgrade path.

Not too shabby for $600ish Canadian.

That's 70$ over my budget but I get the idea. Also 588$ is without the taxes and the GPU.

Very well, if you want I can edit it to make it a bit more sensible and upgrade-able. Change the CPU to G3258, change the mobo to something 1150. That's good enough to low to medium end gaming, then when the money is more forthcoming, upgrade to a 4690k and boom; high end gaming PC.

That CPU OC so well? I'd probably need to add a cooler in there if I do that though.

Add the Hyper Evo 212 from coolermaster.

Ok I reworked the build a bit with your suggestions. Went with the G3258 and the cheapest compatible micro motherboard. That leaves me some money to get the Hyper Evo 212 for better temps since I'll OC the hell out of this. That board should be future-proof enough. With all that it's still 20$ cheaper than my previous build. All I need to check is if the cooler fit in that mini case. Thanks for your advices. I tend to think that Passmark is a good reference but it doesnt take into account OC so sry for beeing sceptical :P

Yea I saw that trick for the RAM. Thing is, with the free shipping of Direct canada it's more or less the same price. Plus they are out of stock. I was considering the mobo though to be able to support USB3

It's a shame, the Patriot Kit you're looking at is CAS of 11 and you want it to be lower if possible. Those Kingston sticks were CAS 9, which is more suitable for 1600mhz. I did find this though: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/part/gskill-memory-f312800cl7d8gbxm CAS 7, fucking beast.

I kanda wanted to be really cheap on the parts since it's not gonna be for me but my consciousness stopped me. I still want a good computer overall.

So I went with the mobo you suggested because it supports usb3 in the front (+15$) and went with your RAM since it's better and also better looking might help for selling it(+5$)

In the end, I think it's hard to beat this PC in term of bang for the buck while still beeing future-proof in terms of possible upgrade. Thanks for the help everyone!
