So I was looking at my task manager, and noticed I was using almost 33% of my available 8gb of RAM. Recently I had done an upgrade from 4gb to 8gb, so to be using nearly all of my previous RAM capacity can't be correct. WTF is using so much of my memory? Also I have a ton of shit running. What can I end??? Or is 2.5gb pretty average on background processes??? How I can reduce the memory use???

Thanks!

Some apps use allocate a percentage of your ram, instead of just a certain amount

For example if you have 1gb, chrome will use 100mb, if you have 64gb chrome will use 6.4gb (Im estimating dont get mad)

Well, Chrome eats your RAM. Antivirus also eats RAM but when used (like scanning).

i have 32GB of RAM in my system. I idle at 4-5GBs....

We can't Benchmark like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to shove more GPUs in your computer. Like the time I needed to NV-Link, because I needed a higher HeavenBench score, so I did an SLI, which is what they called NV-Link back in the day. So, I decided to put two GPUs in my computer, which was the style at the time. Now, to add another GPU to your computer, costs a new PSU. Now in those days PSUs said OCZ on them, "Gimme 750W OCZs for an SLI" you'd say. Now where were we? Oh yeah, the important thing was that I had two GPUs in my rig, which was the style at the time! They didn't have RGB PSUs at the time, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big green ones.

I just am not sure if background processes should be using more than 2gb. On your 16gb system, 4.5 is more than 1/4th of your available RAM. Sounds sort of off doesnt it?

Eh. My startup list is scurry.

I use about 2GB under similar circumstances to you, from what I can tell. The difference between 2GB and 2.7GB could come from a few Chrome tabs, from desktop icons, system indexing, antivirus, etc.

Have you verified that the upgrade was successful and the computer recognizes all 8GB?
