Overclocking problems Pentium G3258

Go to solution Solved by c3p0_,

yeah I figured that the BIOS might be the issue but i installed the latest that I could find which is V 1.A0. I didn't see the version you stated.

Then it's fine. From the pic you uploaded it looked like you have 7816v10 installed thats why I thought your bios might be out of date. Also have you flashed bios + me or only bios? Because they clearly want you to flash bios + me for it to work properly.

You must use one of the following methods to update this BIOS.

- Use MFlash to update "BIOS + ME"

7816v19 is the previous version before A1. But you should consider reflashing using mflash selecting bios+me in case you only flashed bios without me. Otherwise it should work as is.

Motherboard: MSI Z87-G43 LGA1150

CPU: Intel Pentium G3258

Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury Series 4GB (1 x 4GB) DDR3-1866

I am having issues overclocking the CPU via the BIOS.  The only way it is letting me overclock at all is the OC Genie which sets it to 43 x 100Mhz and results in a blue screen. The bios menu won't let me change the multiplier or other settings. What am I missing?

You can underclock it or increase its vcore. You put another number, you don't press +/-.

Yeah but it won't let me change it.

The value you want to change is cpu ratio. Get your cursor there, type 43 then hit enter. If it won't let you make sure numlock is on.

Edit: There you go. Your bios is too old to support 3258 overclocking. You need 7816v19 but you have 7816v18 installed. Supporting the cpu doesn't essentialy mean it supports overclocking it aswell. So flash your bios to the latest release.

I've taken these 2 snaps as I've a similar bios on my G55.

Pretty much change the CPU Ratio, changing the base clock is also okay but if you don't know what you're doing then it's not recommended.

Re-flashed again works fine, weird.

Thanks for the help!

So can you adjust now? Sometimes it only flash the bios on first attempt. Weird but ok, seen this before on an msi board ._. Gave me half-way heartattack when it went to blackscreen and took 2 minutes to boot.
