I am looking for a new office PC, last PC i build was back in 2011 with a i5-2500

All I do are spreed sheets, I don't need a High end i7 .... .. .

I want something that uses little power and get the job done, I HATE laptops I have had many bad ones in my life (all laptops in my life have made me MAD)

Here is a AMD A10, $1,500usd+ Cooler OverKill but I don't like buying cheap crap ...

http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=27292506

Intel i3's use like half the power then that A10 but its only dual cores and can an i3 handle 1440p spreed sheets?

$1,500 for i3+ Cooler http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=23250931

+ ~ $80 for i5

I am willing to Try a laptop again, I hear Dell's are good, any one know how good the xps-15's are? any Ideas on other brands/models ?

I am also willing to wait for New APUs from AMD and Intel to come out, they shouldn't be that far away ...

Wouldn't it be better to have multiple cheap 1080p monitors than one overkill-ish monitor? I believe you'd be able to have larger sheets with multiple monitors. But what do I know, I'm only fourteen.

It may be cheaper up front but use more power and I am really into image quality,

Cheaper the monitor the more power it uses and has crappy image quality ...  (I am a sucker for image quality, drives me crazzy )

I am using a 1440x900 and 1080p now, that 1440p uses the little more power, my 1080p was $180, i could get another but I don't have a lot of space.

I was looking at ultra wide HD (3440 x 1440) but that x2 the price ... but it also uses the same power as 1440p ...

I will still use my i5 for gaming I am looking for lower power for work, mainly because I got a AC last year and summer is coming ... .. .

Thanks for them 2 builds, but looking for way less power, unless you guy really think i Need an i5...

power savings from 2nd gen to 4th gen i5 >35% ( from http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i5-4690K-vs-Intel-Core-i5-2500K )

i7-4790k uses the same power of i5-4690k from http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i7-4790K-vs-Intel-Core-i5-2500K

and are there any good laptops in the world ?

No need for a new computer, your current Core i5 will still smoke the 2 different CPU builds, that you have decided on. For the Core i3, your newegg list say it's empty so I just pick the fastest Core i3.

Core i5 2500 @3.3GHz: 6,206

AMD A10-7850K @3.7GHz: 5,613

Core i3 4370 @ 3.8GHz: 5,569

Have you considered a Xeon, or are you trying to avoid needing a dedicated gpu?

I believe Intel's Skylake processors are due late 2015, possibly pushed into 2016.

Lenovo makes laptops that I hear are excellent quality, I'm not sure about other companies but I would recommend staying away from HP at all costs D:

*EDIT* eh scratch that about the xeon. whenever I hear low power chip my mind wanders over to server components

Core i5 2500 95w tdp

Core i3 4370 54w tdp

A10-7850K 95w tdp

No point of grabbing a A10 as it has the same tdp as his Core i5. Core i3 has a lower tdp, but its performance is not as good as his current cpu. When upgrading, getting a lower tdp is great, but when doing do, you don't want to downgrade on performance. For his upgrade a Core i5 4690S will be a good choice. it has a 65w tdp and gets a score of 7,382. Core i7 4785T 35w tdp, 7,562.

 - This build is $870

 - the system uses ~100w tops according to pcpartpicker, unless you decide to add dedicated graphics

 - i5-4690s is designed with low power consumption in mind

 - Motherboard has a variety of monitor connections: hdmi, dvi, displayport, vga

 - The GPU is optional since the motherboard and intel graphics can support triple monitors (I think you said you use 2). You can remove it -  $150

 - I notice you posted a build using s340 case and no optical drive. You'll probably want to remove the blu-ray drive then - $70

 - 1tb ssd will be nice for secure data, plus the 5yr warranty wont hurt

 - quiet and has a pretty small form factor

*I skipped monitors since someone posted an awesome dell up above, linus has no many good reviews for you to pick from, and you mentioned having a few already anyways...

... NumLock21

Glad to see I'mnot the only one that thought 4690s

@Zar, i remember seeing you with a WIN7 Pro x64 on a list somewhere. Windows 10 is free upgrade in a few months. Getting a cheapo win 7 might actually be more economical if you plan to cash in on the free upgrade later down the line.

why less power?

my i5-2500 windows 7/10 and it is 80w idle; 120 on light load (working) and 200-250-300w on heavy loads (Gaming)

does the work with no problems and no were near 50% load ...

I have an AMD A10 windows 8 laptop (SUCKS), 9w idle 16-20w on load

I don't game that much anymore, and really the i5 is not 100% mine, my old AMD Athlon 64x2 2.41GHz Dual core (2005) build died so have been using someone's i5

and it getting hotter and hotter here so AC has to run longer = more $ on electric bill, Laptop + AC is around 100-110watts less then desktop and the desktop is not in the room with the AC :-/

well man I think you should just stick with an i5 the difference is huge enough to really change anything I mean would be saving cents a year on election unless you have a rediculiously high price per kilowatt hr. But the laptops would be good too!
