Hello, first of all sorry for my bad english.

The question is about these two beauties: I5 4690/ I7 4790

im planning on buying new PC and my budget is pretty limited, someone told me its better to get I7 because in the future i will be able to upgrade it with a new graphic card unlike the I5.

the games also will run better on the i7.

so the question is, should i get the i7 and get worse parts like motherboard or something also ( not sure yet ) or settle on the i5?

also how much % the diffrence in games?

also the graphic card that i want is GTX970 with it

It will be more future proof for an i7.

The i5 is more than enough.

Just remember: Random people on the internet ALWAYS know more than professionals, when someone's lying, AND can predict the future.

i7 9700K (5.2Ghz @1.2V); MSI Z390 Gaming Edge AC; Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 16GB 3200 CAS 16; H100i RGB Platinum; Samsung 970 Evo 1TB; Samsung 850 Evo 500GB; WD Black 3 TB; Phanteks 350x; Corsair RM19750w.

Laptop: Dell XPS 15 4K 9750H GTX 1650 16GB Ram 256GB SSD

Spoiler

sex hahaha

I have no idea what that person is talking about. On both CPUs, you can add a graphics card. In most situations, whether you can add a graphics card or not, is limited by your motherboard - not your CPU. In most games, you will see very little difference between the two. In games that use a lot of threads, you might get a 10FPS difference. MIGHT. I would go with the Core i5 and spend more money on your graphics card.

he didnt say specific that the CPU is must for future upgrades. but he said better get better motherboard, cpu and RAM'S

so, so i get GTX970 with I5 or better motherboard, more ram and better CPU and worse graphic card?

Or you can go with a Xeon e3 1246 v3 or a Xeon e3 1231 v3. Both of these CPUs will give you i7 performance at a slightly higher than i5 price. The big difference between the 2 xeons I listed is the 1246 also has integrated graphics, and is a little bit more. While the 1231 doesn't. Both have hyperthreading like the 4790, and will perform about as well as it.

I'm getting the 1246 myself. Just in case my graphics card has issues upon installation.

It's always a good day if you woke up breathing.

Hyper-Threads are crippled threads it's not worth the extra investment because the chip will be several years old and dated by the time you'll want to replace it. In the meantime four strong threads is more than enough for gaming and pushing multiple GPU configurations. The only time you should invest into an i7 is if you do work with desktop software that can benefit from it. Otherwise in gaming there is absolutely no justification for the extra $100+ especially if it's causing you to skimp out in other areas of the build.
