Hello everyone!

I need the build of a computer it can run Solid Work 2014

I will take 16 gb of ram, 2 t. of memory... But i dont know what motherboard can works fine for this software.

And I have a problem because the graphics solidworks recomends are nvidia quadro, and this graphics cost around 800 $ and probably can I try to run solidworks with a gamer graphic card like nvidia gtx980 ?

Finally it is necessary an i7 CPU, or can I work fine with a high i5?

Help me with the build please. A lot of thanks

For solidworks you want the best CPU you can get, and ideally a firepro or quadro

Unfortunately you cannot use consumer cards for solidworks (as far as I know)

You need to set yourself a budget and tell us what you need in terms of software and peripherals etc

How much do you want to spend? I use solidworks and Pro-e every day, so I have gained a little bit of experience with it.

You can run solidworks on an I5, I used to have an i5 based workstation and it was just fine for most things.

Consumer GPU's are no longer officially supported for SW, (2013 and up I believe) however you can still use them. I occasionally do some work on my home PC when I am a bit behind, that is a 4790K and a GTX-980. The big difference is the driver support between the Quadro K4000 in my workstation and my personal PC's 980. You can do just fine on consumer cards up until your assemblies get larger and more complex.

If the main use for the PC is going to be modeling and simulations I would recommend the Quadro K2200 as it's about the same price as a 980 (a bit cheaper actually) but will still have official support  for the program and drivers optimized for that kind of work load.

If you have other questions I would be happy to help. :)
