CPU bottleneck with GTX 970?

Hey everyone!

My buddy has new GPU (GTX 970), he is getting poor performance in battlefield 4. he has Phenom II 1045t X6 2.8ghz, 8GBs DDR3 1600, windows 8.1 64bit and playing the game at 1920X1080.

He is only getting 30fps or lower in battlefield. All other games are running smooth. He also did a clean installation of windows.

I have an older GPU GTX 670 and only 6gbs DDR3 1600mhz ram and same cpu on windows 8.1 and I'm getting on average of 55fps in battlefield 4 max settings on multiplayer. also same res 1920X1080.

any advice would be great!!!

Thanks

Would probably be a pretty significant bottle neck. Don't think it would result in lower FPS than you do tho.

Are you Overclocked?

Just remember: Random people on the internet ALWAYS know more than professionals, when someone's lying, AND can predict the future.

does he have a bottleneck? yes definitely. there is no way that a phenom II will be able to drive a 970 to its fullest in modern games.

that being said, unless he's also running the card in a x4 slot or in x4 mode i don't think that the bottleneck would be THAT bad. but maybe.

i would recomend your friend to get a little faster proccesor and maybe faster ram but i don't think that ram would be the probelm

and also the motherboard might cause a diffence what motherboard do you have?

1600 mhz ram is absolutely fine for gaming. games aren't dependant on ram speed. unless he has ridiculous CAS latency (highly doubtful) then the ram wouldn't account for anything.

U have the same CPU so problem is somewhere else.

U could try using your card in his PC to see what happens.

Has he installed the latest drivers ?

Tell him to try change in-game settings until the fps is 60+. Start from all on low and some stuff OFF and work your way up from there.

He should really consider a mobo and CPU upgrade.

given the age of the cpu i'd imagine that it could be due to thermal throttling. replace the thermal paste, clean out the dust and see if that helps.
