4 pin fans are usually referred to as PWM fans.

I highly recommend Noctua NF-12 Fans. If you don't like the colours then let me assure you these are the best fans on the market.

After that I would say get Be Quiet Silent Wings 2 fans: Clicky

FYI - do not go with Corsair SP fans - they do not play well with fan controllers... Check the link for a bunch of recommendations...

what about the air penetrators
Depending on the rad's FPI The AP-121 could work but on my H100 it doesn't do so well, 86c average on an Core i7 920 D0 @ 4.01 ghz

In that case the AP-121's would not be ideal. Consider the Gentle Typhoon 1850's (AP-15's), amazingly quiet for an fan that spins at almost 2000 rpm

Obligatory answer is GT AP-15's but they aren't PWM I don't believe. I'm currently running Noiseblocker Pro PK-3's on my Hardware Labs Black Ice GTX 560 and they are beautiful little fans IMO....

I've heard the exact opposite from people on OCN.

I think Dmantsaiu was one of the people that told me that (probably spelling that name wrong)

Well I tested it with a bunch on my BitFenix controller- contacted Corsair support and they confirmed this. Their SP series do not work on a lot as the majority of controllers have variable voltage regulation (or something to that effect). At any one setting the voltage is always moving up and down slightly. They want a constant voltage.

i never use a fan controller, but there have been many remrks on SP/AF on fan controllers.

i use a molex and hard-wire voltage or a resistor and no ill issues (contant voltage).

its kinda like Linus described it, how many times will you be jacking around the control knob?

many fans get wrecked reps because of fan controller issues.

hard wire a voltage or buy a proper fan... my two cents.
