My mom was complaining about her PC fan running all the time. After a little research, she found out that the CPU had heatsink compound on it. She read something somewhere that replacing the compound would fix the problem. She eventually talked me into replacing hers for her.

After tearing the PC apart and replacing it, she claims that the fan is on even more often and that the PC is running slower.

While the tear down was pretty deep, I doubt that would have caused the problems that she is claiming.

Any input that might help me? Thanks!!!

Is the CPU fan connector plugged in to the header correctly?

You mean the fan is running at full speed all the time, right? What CPU is it and what are the temps?

bring her pc to professional!

No need to, we're professionals.

The CPU fan is plugged in correctly, that is one of the first things I thought of.

The fan doesn't always run at full speed, it is just running all the time.

The CPU is a Intel Corer 2 Duo T7250 @ 2.00Ghz

CPU temps:

   Core 1: 86.0*F           98.6*F

   Core 2: 86.0*F           100.4*F

   (According to Open Hardware Monitor)

Temps are fine and the fan is supposed to run all the time.

Your temps are good (I converted them to Celsius)

If your fan is not spinning at full speed all the time and is just spinning all the time and just faster when the CPU gets hotter... Congratz! Nothing is wrong, the CPU fan never turns off, It's made to spin at all times.

I agree, but my Mom claims that this is something new that just started after I took it apart...

Replacing the CPU Cooler?

Basic guide to CPU's!

If I said I were 14, you would call me a kid. If I say 70, you’ll entitle me too old. If I say 20 you say I’m inexperienced and if I say 40 than I'm too boring.

Hmmm, maybe she just started noticing the noise of the fan? A lot of the times when I am with a PC for a while I don't hear the fan noise any more because my brain just ignores it as white noise.

This. I would add that she probably started to pay more attention to the computer because you we're working on it.
