Harddrive Debate

Go to solution Solved by Poohy14,

I have a Seagate 1TB and it is going to die after 403 days and only 43% life left. My 2 Western Digital Blue 1TB has been on for 725 days and the other is 475 days. still has 89% and 94% life left. So if that tell you the quality of WD drives. I shall never get a Seagate drive again. Got the information from a few different programs and all have the same time and percent so it is accurate.

Edit: Also use defraggler to defrag your hard drive since Windows defrag blows super hard. Defraggler takes a long time to organize the data to make it access faster. Also if you use a SSD as your OS drive, make sure to disable Superfetch and that will speed up your SSD.

so my harddrives failing and i need a new one quick. so my question is which should go for ? for the right price mind you. should i get another seagate or go for western digital.

What ill be doing with the harddrive

Playing a game from it + Recording said game + Webcam footage
Basic go to harddrive- emulators, movies, storage. anything

im thinking of getting a  WD Black. but is their performance really overrated? should i save my money and get a blue? or just get the 2TB Seagate for the extra space? because they're all 7200 RPM.

I, personally, would get the WD Black. I have had both Seagate and WD drives and will always pick WD over Seagate. In my experience, WD drives last longer and have fewer problems, but I'd like to quote the guy who said, "your mileage may vary". No specific experiences, sorry, just years of fixing computers experience.

Depends on the product reviews but 9/10 tines I would go for a 2TB from Seagate than a 1TB from WD.

Your drives will last longer if you don't turn off your computer that much since the power cycle rate will shorten the drives life but that is good that you are a WD drive.

Get the 2TB segate drive. If you are looking at other in the future, be aware that 3TB seagate can have some issues (so I'd recommend WD if you want 3TB). Think the 4TB Seagate drives are fine. Just something about the 3TB drives. No conclusive proof but something isn't right. Look at the failure rate (blackblaze so not most reliable source).

Hey Ryouichi Kiriyami,

For what you need the drive for, I would recommend WD Black as it has optimized tuning and extra features that enhance the drive's ability to perform well during multitasking and with more demanding applications. It has an integrated dual-core CPU and a more robust construction and it can sustain longer and more demanding workloads. It comes with a 5 year warranty and is pretty reliable.

WD Blue is also a good drive, but it is a everyday drive and you might find it not fast enough for what you need it for.

Captain_WD.

If this helped you, like and choose it as best answer - you might help someone else with the same issue. ^_^
