Underclocked RAM?

What impact would under-volted RAM have in a system? I have been having some weird boot issues lately. When I went into the bios and took a look, my RAM was only running at 2133 MHZ, but I have 2666 MHZ RAM. I did not even notice this until I switched BIOS profiles on the motherboard switch to see if I can fix boot issues.

Under-volted? Well if the memory isn't rated for 2133 MT/s at the lower voltage, then stability could be an issue. But it should at the very least be able to run 2133 at the same voltage as it's rated for at 2666 MT/s.

 

If it's just lower clocks then it shouldn't matter at all (except for lower performance in the very few programs that actually benefit from memory that fast).

It looked like in the bios that the voltage was set way low compared to what it should be. It was set around 1.14 volts, when normally it sits at 1.28 or 1.3. Maybe that is not a whole lot of difference but I am just looking for causes at this point.

Change your RAM speed to something like 1600 or 1333 to see if your issues disappear.

2133 is to DDR4 as 1333 is to DDR3.

 

OP, you should probably keep memory voltage at least at 1.2V. That's what DDR4 is normally rated for.
