Overclocking failed?

Hey guys, when i leave my computer on say for the night and come back to it in the morning, my screens wont display anything even though the computer is on and the monitors are on. So i shut it down and when it restarts it says overclocking failed press f1 to continue to make me go into the bios. However i havent overclocked anything, my ram is even at 1333. Any ideas???

You should have a button in the rear I/O or on the motherboard called "CMOS".

Resetting BIOS might work but if not I'd recommend upgrading your BIOS/UEFI to the latest version from your boards support website.

lol i was just reading that exact thing, but for the button on the back of the mobo do i just click it or do i shut down the computer first and the displays. Also im running a asus rampage iv gene meaning that i had to update the bios in order for my 4930k to work with by doing this will have to update it again???? cause it was a bitch.

Did you flash the latest version? If so then your good and no need to update again.

Do a reset (as posted above) first.

I'd say your issues might be due to your underclock, head into UEFI and find the XMP setting, turn it on (or select profile 1) then save and reboot. That will make your RAM run at its proper settings.

Might not solve your issue but you should enable it anyway.

yes i did flash the bios but that was when i built it which was months ago if that means anything. But yes most of my recent problems have been with my memory so ill try what you said

Now you should grab OCCT, run it, select Linpak Test, hit Run and leave it for an hour (preferably longer if you can). You could also grab AIDA64 and use its stress test if you wanted (instead of OCCT) but AIDA isn't free, OCCT is.

Linpak is really important here, don't use OCCT CPU as it only stresses the CPU, Linpak stresses both CPU & RAM.

If it BSODs then there's an issue with your hardware somewhere, might be something faulty or it might be UEFI settings.

If it runs for as long as you can without a BSOD then its not hardware and must be software related.

well i ran memtest86 yesterday and got two errors on test 6, sio im pretty sure its my ram

Memtest is great for diagnosing RAM issues but if you want the full picture you should do a proper stress test in Windows.

That said if your happy then that's cool, if anything happens again you know where to start

im currently running the occt cpu:linkpack test ill let you know if i get the bsod

Yeah, that's a really good indication your hardware is stable.

thanks for the help if it does it again i probably have to do a clean boot of windows 8.1 or something thanks again
