Dell Demension 2400

I've been trying to get Linux on my old Pentium 4 computer, but it won't boot into the CD. I have looked around for answers and apparently dell has a hardware lock on the system. How do I get around this lock?

I've tried all the things listed under this thread on the Ubuntu forums.

The system has a newly upgraded 2gb of ram, so windows xp is running allot better in case I can't get Linux working.
