My friend has a business and its less than a half mile away from his house. It's in a residential area and not many trees around. Is it possible to send his WiFi signal across to the business? Would his speed be degraded??

You probably wouldn't be able to send WiFi that far, but you could definitely use a point-to-point link like Ubiquiti airMax https://www.ubnt.com/products/#all/wireless

His speeds would likely degrade, but these ptp links are relatively fast, so if there is line of sight the degradation would be minimal.
