Wife needs a new GPU

stealth80

Thanks for the replies, don't assume I don't know what i'm doing please, I've been playing wow myself for years, quit just 3 months ago, however .............

I'm out of the country at the moment with work and she mentioned to me her fps was horrible in raid last night. I did have a few minor issues in MoP but since that time I've swapped out the 670 for a 280x vapour x (now sold) and now on a 970gtx on my project build. I know WoD brought around some improvements, but I can't say exactly what her issue was as I aint there, she just said she had horrible fps in raid last last night, so either the drivers are messed (as many have said), the card has become faulty (doubtful) or she fucked a setting (likely lol) Ill try and get some more info from her tomorrow when i chat to her next, check her settings etc, but if i do need to get her a card, i guess the asus 960 strix is the card of choice?

I was on a 3770k + 280x and when i swapped out to the 4790k + 970k my fps went from like dipping 20s to like +100.

just thinking she has a corsair 450w system builder psu at the moment powering the rig, I've checked pus calculators and it should be plenty, but could it be an issue?

Nevermind, not this, minimum 334, recommended 388, so she's fine there

Hey, my wife has just told me she needs a new GPU for World of Warcraft (the only game she plays). Shes currently using my old MSI 670GTX OC in the following rig:

i5 4670k

MSI G45 Gaming Z97

8 GB GSkill ram

Samsung EVO 850 256gb

MSI 670GTX OC

It has to be Nvidia as she uses shadowplay, which obviously rules out AMD. I thought I would get her a 960, but seems it would be little improvement over the 670 after reading some reviews. I dont wanna go for a 970gtx cause quite frankly i feel it would be overkill for her.

Any suggestions?

What resolution is the monitor? Also this http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/14580888055. GTX 670 is fine for this game. http://www.game-debate.com/games/index.php?g_id=9062&compareGPU=World%20Of%20Warcraft:%20Warlords%20Of%20Draenor How many fps does she want for that game. Overclock the GPU and CPU.

Seriously, why is a 670 not enough?

If she really demands a better one, you think a 970 is overkill, and it has to be nvidia, the only real options are a 770 or a 960.  A 680 and a 770 are the same cards, just rebranded.

But still, is that marginal increase worth $175-$200?

the 770 and 960 everyone is so keen to mention would be a small upgrade (compared to the cost) and honestly a 670 is way more than enough for WoW unless she's playing at 4k or triple monitors.

edit:

check the nv control panel to see if she enabled extra AA there (like ssaa or msaa) also it might be thermal throttling if the pc hasn't been cleaned/graphics card wasn't cleaned well

My rig:
CPU: i5 4690k 24/7 @4.4ghz (1.165v) Max 4.7ghz (1.325v) COOLER: NZXT Kraken X61 MOBO: Asus Z97-A   RAM: 16GB Crucial Ballistix Tactical   GPU: EVGA GTX 970 SSC   PSU: EVGA GS 650W   CASE: NZXT Phantom 530 HDD: WD Caviar Blue 1TB + WD Black 2TB

How isnt a 670 enough for WoW???? Also, a 960 is pretty much no improvement, a 970 as you said would be really over the top, maybe try to look for a 770, although you should know that even that is quite ridicouless for a game that released 11 years ago...

she's only 1080P same as me, and the PC is clean, i had it all out and cleaned all the heatsinks like 5 weeks ago, so it shouldn't be so bad. She's gonna check her settings and try again tonight with fresh drivers, see how it goes. thanks for advice so far, if it doesn't work out i guess ill grab either 970 or wait for AMD 3XX series grab one of those and give her mine  :D

Is her 670 really not enough for WoW?

An excellent point. Even 400 series cards play Wow well.
