Need help choosing an entry level gaming GPU

Go to solution Solved by LegacyStijncat,

All you will need is a GTX 960 (4GB more preferably) to play almost all games today at 1080p with good graphics. It will be able to run three displays but not game on all three, if you are thinking about gaming like that you may just get a GTX 970. Cheers!!!

Disagreed, looking at Nvidia Surrounds site it says that the max resulotion on a single GPU is 10240x1600 (When running 3 1080 monitors you have 5760*1080). Agreed that max graphics is not always possible, but Surround pickers can't be choosy.

@Stijncat I would like a silent GPU overall

@dadasmithywinkle the site says it supports the latest AMD R9 2xx series and the Nvidia GTX 7xx series but do I have to get that specific series GPU? Well, I guess if I want to use 3 monitors then the answer is yes, right?

You can get that series, or any newer ones. GTX 700 and up support surround, R9 200 and up support whatever AMD calls it.

If you want silence, check out ASUS and MSI, they tend to build on 0db passive modes, for when its not under load.

EDIT: fixed number resolution, and underlined it.

Hello there. I would like for you guys to help me choose the right GPU for entry level gaming to go with the ASRock M8 Mini-ITX Barebones Gaming PC According to Can You Run It the recommended VRAM to run Battlefield 4 is 3GB. I am not looking to game at 4k, I think at 1080p would be nice and I would like to have 3 displays. I'm not on a budget but paying less is always a better option. I'm leaning towards an AMD GPU because I wan't to give them a try for a change. Also, I would like to know what would be a good CPU to support the graphics card. Any and all recommendations are welcomed. Thanks!

Any CPU of Intel's i5 series is great for any game.

For your GPU, you do need to know what you want.

Some manufacturers (not Nvidia or AMD, the other ones)   focus on overclocking. Some focus on video outputs, some on budget, some on silence...

What do you want the most?

Welcome to the forumes.

The site says that that specific GPU is the one to get, not 3GB of VRAM. A GTX 750ti or R9 270 would be more than good enough to run the game at 1080p.

If you want to run the game on ALL three displays, then forget the entry level GPU's. You're gonna need something like a 980 or a 290X at the least in order to run the game on all three screens at once.

As far as the CPU's, the Intel Core i5 series is the best for gaming, bang/buck-wise.

My arsenal: i7-9700k Gaming Rig, an iPhone, and Stupidity.

Bam, good response, drop this guy a like!

VRAM does indeed matter, but does not determine. You can also SLI/Crossfire some GPU's if your that short on cash, but doing so from the beginning excludes future upgrades, keep that in mind.

At 1080p I would recommend the 280x at the most.

I think most people at entry level would be very comfortable with something like a 270.

2 GB Vram is plenty for another year or two, especially for people who don't need textures on Ultra in every game and are playing at 1080p.

Agreed on most points, but the 2GB Vram is not THAT much anymore. Dying Light benefits from more, and Shadow Of Mordor NEEDS more.

For ultra textures, sure. If you dial it down a notch 2GB is no big deal and the actual visual difference is miniscule.

A GTX960 can run triple monitors, thats what he says.

But it WONT be a good gaming experience (everything on low or have to deal with low fps)

Desktop: Intel i9-10850K (R9 3900X died 😢 )| MSI Z490 Tomahawk | RTX 2080 (borrowed from work) - MSI GTX 1080 | 64GB 3600MHz CL16 memory | Corsair H100i (NF-F12 fans) | Samsung 970 EVO 512GB | Intel 665p 2TB | Samsung 830 256GB| 3TB HDD | Corsair 450D | Corsair RM550x | MG279Q

True, but nothing a bit of SLI can't fix (960's are not THAT expensive for 4GB cards)
