Boeing patents ‘force field’ technology

Cyclic

Boeing has filed a patent for a force-field technology that could protect vehicles from explosive shockwave damage. The force-field works by sending out shockwaves of it's own in the form of laser pulses that ionise the surrounding air absorbing the force from the explosion. This will not provide protection from a direct impact however as the force-field will only protect from the shockwave created by an explosion, projectiles themselves will not be affected (or at least not affected enough to provide sufficient protection).

Sensors on-board the vehicle will detect incoming projectiles such as missiles, RPG's etc. and will then calculate where and when the projectile will hit and therefore where and when the explosion will come from. The protective shockwave will then be directed at the appropriate area and nobody dies!

Pretty cool stuff eh!?
