Pretty much, just search Google and download 98% of the apps that apply to you. Frankly, that's why Google completely dominates the top 10-15 apps lists in many areas.

So I got a new Android tablet, I believe a Nexus 7 2012 model by Asus.

Any good apps and or utilities I should download? Or should I be using a custom rom ?

Currently I just updated it to the latest lolipop seeing as it's a google device it gets updates for days Lol.

I don't have a whole lot of applications, to be honest.

Just some examples of what I do have, just for usefulness' sake.

VLC

Messenger

Steam

WeatherBug

Gravity screen is a cool little widget to have.

eBay

Aliexpress

Line

Twitch.tv

Amazon Kindle

Swiftkey

I think some 5.0.# - 5.# have fixed some things with the 2012 Nexus 7 performance.

But it's definitely was smoother with kitkat from a lot that I've seen.

VLC is a must for media playback

CCleaner sure most people know about this

Push Bullet is great for notifications across devices

Dolphin Browser if you just gotta have you Flash content

SpeedTest just because

Screen Off & Lock if you don't want to always use the power button

If you care about wireless or to experiment with it, I highly recommend a WiFi analyzer. I use it quite a bit to determine what channel I need to change my router to. Everybody in this apartment is minimally tech savvy, and have their routers set to channel hop, so I change mine manually about once a week to keep my interference down as much as possible.

Well im pretty new to Android and still unfortunately haven't explored it's customization and openness, but i do have the Amazon app store which is cool because you get a free paid app a day, some are good and some are bad but it's nice when you get the good apps for free :)

Surprised non of the hardcore Android users haven't posted yet, maybe there asleep atm.
