Windows 10 OEM key

Go to solution Solved by GoodBytes,

Yup. Sometimes it asks you about your day and stuff. And if you get angry it goes all crazy and says stuff like:

oh well such as life.

will my windows 7 oem key that came with my hp tower let me upgrade to 10 as it is a free upgrade, or wiill i have to "legally pirate windows 10"?

im in the technical preview atm, due to HDD failure, so i decided to go to the preview cause i had no way to go back to 7...

I can't imagine there being a built-in way for you to upgrade from Windows 10 TP -> Windows 10 using a Windows 7 Key without support from Microsoft, however you can just install Windows 7 and do an update from there I think.

Should be fine if not just pirate and install 7 then upgrade to 10 form that when it is out since they will still let you do it.

No. Don't recommend pirating software (Read the CoC). OP: Do not pirate software.

but i would loose my programs xD

windows only supports keeping program 7to 10 8to10

and will the technical preview expire the same day as the windows 10 release or a little after?

I would imagine a little after (if at all) to give users a chance to backup data before upgrading to Windows 10.

technically not pirating, i paid for 7/oem       and 10 is free....

It would still be pirating as it is not how the manufacturer intended, now it's morale correctness and legality I am not informed of.

i have the key, its oem however from my hp p7,

and when my hdd died the recovery partition died 2 so i can't restore back to 7 and use the key without thier being activation issues.

but the key is on a sticker on the side of my pc so. if windows 10 won't let me use that i mean...that would just be bs, plus i have been on technical since launch so all my programs and settings were to be lost if i revert to 7.

I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with you, if you can't get it to work it's your decision.

I've completely replaced hard drives before and reinstalled OEM properly. (I mean, I replaced an HDD in a laptop with an SSD and during installation it didn't even ask for a Key, probably a different situation than yours but just saying). Have you actually tried? Even if it doesn't work I am sure Microsoft can work something out with you.

i did not try, cause i had happen to another system, so it wasn't worth when i could just go to windows 10 tehcinal preview without short term issues

well even if i did go back to 7 im now on the tech preview which has no key, so when i go to 10 i still need to input a key..

Well, normally you should have a key on the side of your case, this is the OEM key. The key that was used by HP for your windows 7 installation is a generic one for their use. So technically, the key on the side of your case is unused. Meaning as long as you have an ISO, you could technically install it and activate it (might need to call the windows activation center, which is just talking to a robot and inputting numbers, it should then give you a confirmation number to input in)

this may or may not work, as your choices of ISOs pretty much went down the drain. Had you asked this a month ago, I could've given you an entire list of the different ISOs available on digitalriver, but microsoft removed that once they started that "software recovery" bs I linked in my previous post.

So here's 2 link for ISOs

home premium Pre-SP1 32bit

home premium Pre-SP1 64bit

They seems to be the original, untouched, pre-SP1 ISOs of Windows 7 Home Premium.

Sp if your key is for the SP1 Win7 (meaning it was bought after SP1 came out and it clearly states on the sticker to be SP1), you will need to find either " X17-58997.iso " for 64bit or " X17-58996.iso " for 32bit. (home premium windows 7) Should be able to find it somewhat easily on torrent or a hardcore google search for a direct link that still work.

It may work just like it may also not work.

No one can tell you if it will or not as RTM Windows 10 isn't out yet.

If it doesn't, you are out of luck and I hope you will have a Windows 7 ISO/DVD to use with your key for the "upgrade".

The X17 version should work. My laptop says X15-53758 and I used the X17-58997 to reinstall Windows Home Premium on it just fine.

You can find that specific x17 on a torrent site. (I looked it up)

If you do download it, here's the SHA1: 6C9058389C1E2E5122B7C933275F963EDF1C07B9  (to make sure it's untouched, this is the Windows 7 Home Premium SP1-U ISO 64bit)
