$800 Gaming build

Kot

Hi, I am planning to build a new PC for the purpose of gaming and web browsing. My current budget I am trying to aim for is around $800. I have a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and a copy of Windows. The only parts I need for this build is the ones I have picked out. Here is what I have picked out so far and I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations or improvements.

CPU: Intel Core i5-4590 3.3GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($189.95 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: Asus Z97-A ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($139.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Memory: Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory  ($56.99 @ Micro Center)
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 960 2GB Video Card  ($199.99 @ Newegg)
Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer  ($19.78 @ Directron)
Total: $810.65
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Swap the 960 for a 280X, its faster, and is cheaper in most cases. Other than that you're totaly fine.

Optionaly you can swap the single 8gb dim for 2 4gb dims for slightly better performance when run in dual channel.

Why Z97 board for a locked processor ?

Get B series board. or H97 PRO or similar.

Get an SSD also 600W is not needed for that GPU.

Just get K series processor and have fun with it. CM 212 evo can handle the heat! :)

I think the only issue is the $800 budget. But, I'd agree. Throw another $50 into it and get the 4960K furusre.

I searched for a 280X but I couldn't find any that were cheaper. Would you happen to have a link to a cheaper deal? Also, is dual channel always better than using a single stick?

If it strictly for gaming you'd be much better off with something along the lines of this.

What country do you live in? And yes, dual channel is ALWAYS better.  Unless of course, at some point you wanted 32gb of ram.

I stand corrected. The 960 has dropped in price recently (last few days or so) most likely with the Titan X launch. So yes, the 960 is now about 10$ cheaper than a 280X, but the 10$ are well, well worth the extra cash.
