downloaded the ISO for windows 8.1 pro and trying to install it on my laptop which i just changed the HDD. The laptop is saying that it needs a device driver (i think for the usb stick but i may be wrong). just wondering how to copy the driver onto the usb so it works

did you install all your notebook drivers from the manufacturer website?

Need a little bit of information, Windows 8.1 has a usb 3.0 driver if that's the kind of thing your talking about. If not I will need a little bit more information on what kind of usb it is Audio, Storage, Wireless, Adapter...

 

Depending on what kind it is you might just want to go to the device manufacture so you get the most current version of the driver and you know it's the correct one.

USB storage devices shouldn't really require a special driver, have you tried the other USB ports, or like stated above went to the manufactures website and installed all of the drivers listed for each device the computer has.  "not all of them exactly just the most current driver version"

Yea they would still have the drivers, if it was released with windows 7 they would have most likely produced windows 8 drivers for it, if not your best bet would be to try the windows 7 ones.

Just to be clear did you set up the usb to actually be bootable? Like with Windows Usb download tool?
