Hey guys first time being on here can anyone give me any suggestions if its worth me upgrading my Graphics Card anytime soon I am currently on the ASUS R9 270X 2GB DirectCU II TOP which is a mid-range card is there going to be much difference if I upgraded to say a R9 290X or whether I should wait for the 300 line of AMD cards Preferably I do want a GPU with 4GB VRAM as I do enjoy playing a lot of heavily modified Skyrim with a lot of high quality textures installed

I have also been considering if I should go with a GTX 970 but was a bit hesitant with the VRAM thing that was going on don't get me wrong I have looked at performance and benchmarks of it and it does seem like and Awesome card

Thanks in advanced for the help :)

the r9 290x would be an enorm boost for you, but waiting for the new lineup and maybe get the r9 290x even cheaper would be my suggestion

wow that was quick with the responses. Yeah in terms of the GTX 970 I was considering the ASUS Strix version I might be tempted towards the MSI one

Papyrus(The script skyrim uses) crashes when it reaches 3,1gb, For 1gb of Vram usage the memory load in papyrus becomes almost 1gb, You would not be able to use more than 3gb in skyrim anyways.

Between the R9 290x and GTX 970 for Skyrim id rather recommend the GTX 970.

But newer AAA games id recommend the R9 290x over the GTX 970.

I think ENB may fix it, Kind of but im not sure.

the r9 290x is a hotter gpu so IMO the 970 is better

I do currently run with an ENB using the RealVision Performance version. Plus with my current PSU 650W might be cutting it close for the power draw on a R9 290X

650W is enough, unless you use that insanely power hungry AMD CPU.

The 970 would be a great option and the vram issue is not that big of a deal even if your playing modded skyrim with ultra textures

Oh yes it is, Skyrim fills up your VRAM like crazy, I went over 4GB with my 290X without even installing an insane amount of mods.

No worry there I am using an i5 4690K so I should be good in that area then

Jesus calm down idk anything about skyrim

1. I am calm, I just said that what you stated is false.

2. If you don't know anything about Skyrim why would you give information that you don't even know anything about?

I was just asking for friendly advice on a GPU upgrade and whether its needed in my current situation any suggestions from folks is welcome I was just giving more information on the purpose I would need the Card for :)

At this stage I would wait to see what amd have to offer, as it should only be a few months before the 300 series arrives .

I was thinking that was more of a wise idea that I should wait and see what the 390X or 380X is like once they are announced

I find that hard to believe, I've ran the game at 4k DSR with texture mods and have never hit over 2gb.

If we have to believe the rumours the 390 will be around $700 and completely stomp the 980, and the 380 will be a bit above 290x level, comparable to a 970/980 mix.

Hmm maybe my best bet is to wait for a price drop on the current 290X then (but I suppose paying a premium for a High-End GPU is expected if its of that caliber)
