i3 or i5?

Go to solution Solved by Dabombinable,

i5-4460 is the better option. Four true threads are better than four crippled threads. It will perform better in thread heavy games and last you a lot longer.

Don't diss those crippled threads, they do better than a certain CPU with more crippled threads.

Should I get an i3 @ 3.6 ghz haswell or an i5 4460 haswell? i3's are 30-40 % less expensive and I dont think there is that much of a difference. Someone help?

PC is for gaming purpouses.

The i5's will perform better, and be more futer proof.

However, most modern games will be fine on the i3.

Id'e still go for the i5.

The i5 will definitely be a lot better for gaming and last much longer. Especially with dx12 coming on the horizon. The difference won't be huge right away for most games, but it will be huge come a year from now.

Four crippled threads. Hyper-Threading on Intel processors strongly resemble how a Bulldozer module works except with a single core. The threads fight over resources and pause and wait on each other as only one of the threads can access the resources at a time. This is why Hyper-Threading only scales about 30%.

I thought it was about 20% (going off my old Pentium 4s).
