Cheap PC with OS

This may be a dumb question, but is there a way I could buy a cheap pc that has windows on it and somehow remove it and put it on a new computer I am building?

You can buy a new copy of windows on reddit for like, 25$

Maybe, maybe not. If its an OEM computer(like HP, Dell, etc.) you will have some trouble doing this(some arguing with M$, and some stretching of the truth). For computers that were custom built or upgraded with a retail copy of Windows, it might work right away, but you might have to call M$ and follow the automated instructions.

So instead of just getting the OS, you want a cheap computer that has it? Take it off that one. And put it on the one you do use?

For whatever reason you wanna do that, if the OS is not already activated, the cheap computer could have the windows id/pin thing that you can put on the computer you do use. Else if it's already active, I'm not too sure about that.

Yes I was just curious if it could be done because I found a computer for 1/3 of the price as the OS is to buy new and I am already over budget on my new rig I am building without including OS and mouse and keyboard, so it would help if I could do that.

Ahh, I see. Ya not to sure man. What windows were you planning on getting? There are some places you can get windows cheap and still legitimate.

I was looking for Windows 7 Ultimate, but if I could find 7 Home premium, or Windows 8 cheap enough I would strongly consider it.

Dang, well defiantly keep looking around. That's sometimes the worse haha, gotta a new rig and yet you don't have an OS yet. Hope you enjoy your new computer though by the way.

Haha thanks I hope I enjoy it as well. Its my first time building one so I hope its a good experience and not a bad one.

The /r/buildapc moderation team has decided to adopt a policy forbidding the advertisement or facilitation of Windows OS key sales that violate the Microsoft Terms of Service in this subreddit.

This policy includes but is not limited to sales of keys that are obtained via MSDNAA or enterprise level packages ("unlimited" keys). As a quick and dirty way to recognize these sales for what they are, if the key is being sold for $20 or so, it likely violates Microsoft's ToS and falls under this policy.

What other subreddits do is their business, but please do not advertise these sales or other subreddits that cater to these sales. Posts or comments that do so will either be removed or asked to be edited. Repeat offenders may have to face a ban if they refuse to adhere to this new policy.
