hey guys,

I was looking into getting a 4k monitor for work. I use tons and tons of spreadsheets and some video/photo editing. I also like to do some gaming.

Currently I'm using a 1440p monitor and two other 1080p monitors.

Since hardware just isn't there to game consistently at 4k, I was thinking about just turning it down to 1440p or some other 16:9 resolution.

For those of you who have a 4k monitor already, how is gaming at 1440p on it?

Is it as noticeable as playing 1080 on a 1440p monitor?

Or does the density kind of help out with down-scaling?

Thanks a lot!

Hardware is definitely capable of gaming at 4k; I suggest a 21:9 monitor for productivity.

1440p on a 4k monitor isn't great, but 1080p looks very similar to native 1080p (on my monitor at least). For what you do I'd recommend the P2715Q if you can afford it.

ah, i see. So it's more a matter of being more closely divided in half regardless how dense it is.

4k to 2.5k doesn't exactly 'line up'. A 5k monitor at 1440p would likely give the same effect as 4k to 1080p i assume.

I was originally thinking that, but i REALLY need the height and width.

On my 1080p monitors i have to split a spreadsheet vertically with one monitor on top of another in landscape. (it's just how my work set it up, i cannot edit the layout)

If i zoom out, i can just get what i need on my 1440p monitor while still being able to read it. before it goes all ###### on me :P

i have a xb280hk 28" 4k monitor and i think its epic for both work and play! it scales well at both 1080p and 1440p in games. if you dont fancy g sync the cb280hk uses the same panel at a much cheaper price.
