Switch from Asus VS248h-p to PB278q

timmyg88

I'm thinking of making the switch to 1440p.  My current monitor is VS248h-p http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0058UUR6E/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and I am thinking of getting the PB278q http://www.amazon.com/PB278Q-27-Inch-LED-lit-Professional-Graphics/dp/B009C3M7H0/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&rps=1&ie=UTF8&qid=1426451666&sr=1-1.

What are the main differences between these monitors?  Am I losing anything making this switch (refresh rate, response, etc.)? I cant justify spending $800 on the ROG Swift or I'd be doing that.  Thinking the regular PB278q is a good 2nd choice.

Thanks for the help!

Welcome to the forum! Honestly I wouldn't get the PB278Q. There's nothing really special about it, you're getting a bigger screen with higher res and slightly better colors. Price is decent for what you're getting, but it's not worth spending that much to upgrade

Take a look at this Acer, this Benq, and this QNIX

The PB278Q was once a recommendation, but has steadily shown its age as cheaper and comparitive monitors are released.

The only thing you lose from not opting going with the expensive RoG Swift is a g-sync module, which has been theorized as unecessary and mainly driver related, and 1440p at 144hz refreash rate.

Aniallation has given quite a few cheaper and quality alternatives, though there is suppose to be a new release of 1440p and 4K monitors mid April by the same companies. It may be better to wait a few months longer before making a purchase now.

Didn't know about the mid-april release date.  Thanks for the info.

I'll probably just wait knowing that.

The ROG Swift is still the only monitor you can get right now with 144hz Refresh Rate, 1440p, 1ms Response time and g-sync.   The 1440p monitors people are talking about coming out have 4ms response times, some dont have g-sync and others are 60hz only.
